So what are the inherent differences between the WRX and Sti7 that mean an Ecutek'd and decat WRX will put out 285bhp and an Sti 315BHP?

Where is that extra 30BHP coming from?

Ed,

Don't forget the 295-300lbft of torque also on the STi, I'm not sure what the EcuTeK WRX pulls?

Cheers

Paul

275 or thereabouts I believe. Be interesting once I get mine done to compare the feel of the two cars with 5 and 6-speed boxes...

I don't believe the engines are the same though. Didn't the sales blurb say that the engine on the STi is 80% different?

Ed, who is doing your EcuTeK for you? Presumably you are going for the full monty? Hope so!

Ed the STi has VVT for a start.

It's a completely reworked engine, larger intercooler etc.

Nathan..

variable timing? I didn't realise that, which is surprising considering how many times I've read the reviews / stats in mags

Paul, yeah I think I'm going the full monty...my only worry is losing my warrant on a full decat / up and downpipe. A blown engine would wipe me out, so to speak. 265 - 270 with just the backbox and keeping my warranty is tempting, but as the car is so new I can't see me lasting another 2.5 years without breaking the warranty anyway!!!

Edcase - the ecu changes will invalidate the warranty in any case, won't it?

The Sti has a bigger turbo, as John says and also has bigger injectors, allowing a higher level of fuelling. Its only really the WRX injectors that are stopping it going beyond the 295/300bhp mark.

The 20% that isn't different is the crank and the rods

ProperCharlie - well several dealers I have spoken to off the record have reccommended me it over the PPP, and told me it wont affect my warranty as in many respects a properly mapped Ecutek is actually better than the PPP piggyback chip. Its also invisible to their diagnostics and would need someone in the know to drive the car to spot it.

That's pretty interesting Ed. So I could save money by getting an EcuTek remap instead of PPP and *perhaps* retain my warranty as well?

So it would take an expert to detect it has another 60bhp. I reckon I could do that job .

Thats pretty much the conclusion I came to, and having had the ecutek reccommended by a dealer I then spoke to a couple more who said the same. I'm not sure the dealers make much money on the PPP as its a 'free labour' mod hence you dont get discount on PPP with SIDC membership.

Chrisp, if you have to go in for an engine problem on warranty they likely couldn't drive the car anyway to test, and the diagnostics will show standard ecu.

Chrisp - absolutely. I'm finding it harder and harder to justify 1600 quid for PPP. At the end of the day just make sure if you do have any problems it goes to an ecutek 'friendly' dealer.

I'm 99.9 going for a full decat tho so makes no odds to me now

Floyd - why? It's pretty common knowledge and there are no names named.

If you really have an issue I'll edit the posts.

Ed could you mail me with details of the * EcuTek friendly* dealers as I would be pretty interested in getting this done if it is cheaper and better than PPP. Have EcuTek developed something for the STi7?
