........you had £22,000 and wanted to buy a reasonable motor that doesn't depreciate as much as your average Scooby?

If I had £22000 (which I don't unfortunately!) it would be a MY03 EU Import STi! If I were you I'd keep your car at least two years - you can't expect to run a car (especially a UK supplied one) 6 months and not lose a fortune. The majority of cars from other manufacturers would have lost a similar amount. A lot of people seem to be wanting to sell their MY02 STis at the moment which is bound to push prices down. What is it you don't like about the STi?

Ian - it's not that I don't like it. It's a cracking car, but there are several reasons why selling it would make sense for me - including self preservation! Also, my son's signed for the Coventry City academy and we're stacking up the miles with training, away matches etc. Plus, I've discovered that a family of five is a bit of a tight squeeze.

On their own, none of these would make me want to sell, but put them all together and there's a strong argument for opting out and getting something like the Audi Allroad (flame retardent clothing now in place........)

If it is self preservation then any car of value is attractive to the Car thieves they will nick the Audi i remember Police signs up near Holland park in London about 18 months ago about a woman who got stabbed for her Golf!

Ah you never said you wanted to preserve yourself. In that case, I don't recommend the Focus RS anymore.

An Octavia RS

Reasonably brisk , very cheap to run, plenty of room for 5 and the boot is large enough to live in. Best bit, you get £7,000 change from your 22k

For 22k, you'd be lucky to get a decent NSX. Might just get a high-mileage (90-100k) 91 'H.

They're even more expensive if you import from Japan.

NSX might be a bit of a tight squeeze for a family of 5 as would the 911 and possibly the Skyline
