Having a convo with the relations about how silly Christmas cards have got and not many depict the true meaning of Christmas ?

anyway,a few had Baubles on and I said I assume that is supposed to represent the Star in The east ?
We also hang the baubles on the Christmas tree But where or what does the Tree represent ??

Andy

The Christmas tree is a mix n' match of different beliefs.
It has Pagan roots (no pun intended! )and became a symbol of eternal life because it is an evergreen and does not shed leaves in the winter-time.
It was very popular in Germany for centuries and was brought here by Prince Albert, Queen Victorias husband in the 19th Century.
Since then we've added the star at the top plus other symbols such as the manger, three wise men etc etc underneath the tree.
But again the origin lies in Pagan ritual and the Christians 'borrowed' the concept.
I don't know if this came before or after burning the Pagans at the stake!
