Only way to tell is to put det cans on the engine and give it loadsa ignition advance and see how it does. As for Sainsburys' Safeway petrol etc etc they must get it from one of the big boys as i dont think they have their own refinaries. Saying that i know TESCO's have their own tankers but that doesnt say that they have their own refinaries.

I havent actually seen it over here, but then we dont have optimax either.
But with regards to the mad question, perhaps not mad, but after reading some of your other posts, perhaps insane may be a better choice???

Pete, you're absolutley right!
10 times smoother than that Optimax guff.
The jury was out for a while on Optimax for me as I kept going back to see if the next tank would improve but it simply didn't.
Merry Xmas old boy

PS Tesco petrol comes from Esso, Sainsburys is BP
,dunno bout Safeway and the rest.

I personally believe that Esso is the best fuel around. My Grandad worked for them for over 25 years and my dad was there for some time too.
I always try to use Esso but had to put Optimax in SB's car on Saturday

well, I use Sains SUL quite often, otherwise I get strange looks from the Shell dweebs when I try and use my 4p/litre voucher.
slightly off topic, why is petrol in Watford about 4p/L cheaper than where I live (herts/essex border)?

i used optimax in my scoob ( uk my00 turbo ) for about 5 fill ups and i noticed that at idol the engine seemed to blip, like it missed a beat. so i started filling up at my local sainsburys on SUL and the car is running so much sweeter. go for SUL any day over optimax....
The Sainsbury's near us doesn't sell SUL
[4p a litre Petrol Voucher would be wicked to use] and the nearest Shell garage is 15 miles away, so have to use Esso or BP.
I think that Sainsbury's and Safeway's use Texaco as I have seen Texaco tankers delivering to both.

Tesco's Sainsbury's and other company's fill up and local depot's (i work for TotalFinaElf), and they fill up at our depot's as well. Petrol.....basically it's all the same 'base' product it has to have the basic ISO standard. Companies like Texaco/Total and Shell etc mix their 'base' product with their own 'additive' either in the tanker or at the petrol station itself.
agree with the comments about sainsbury's sul....i can't tell the difference between optimax and normal unleaded but it's so much better on super...don't use bp sul cos it's 82.9 p per litre whereas sainsbury's is 76.9...big difference!
Good point Gez, Tesco's uses a BP refinery (so that'll be BP then), and from experience (and observing threads on this site), Esso SUL is far and away the best, and Optimax is, well basically, ****e!
Esso fuel has the least additives making it better for cars and worse for people..................................oh well!
Merry Xmas all................................
at 73p/Litre if you buy some groceries - its GOT to be the Daddy!!
Plu the fuel is going to be from a major refinery ans the petrol station will have a high turnover of fuel do to 'The so called Deal'
Again as in a previous thread it will be down to water in the fuel
I've heard from a motorsport source that Optimax is actually bad for your car, it apparently coats something or other with an oily film and cloggs. How true is this?
Maybe a tuner can respond with any findings?

King RA, What exactly are you talking about. Red and Green refers to diesel, and while diesel smuggling and laundering ( removing the dye from colured fuel )is linked with paramilitaries, it is generally white diesel that is smuggled. There is more profit in it.
There is no such thing as industrial petrol???? We dont have Optimax here, because shell dont be,lieve there is a market for it i assume.
Asides from that, Shell although they do supply some filling stations over her, no longer own any filling stations. Due to the amount of illegal fuel ( or so they claim ) and the cost of forecourt insurance, they just pulled the plug a few months ago, which is why you will see a few stations still all closed up.
One thing in the petrol debate I would like to know, is there was some claims about shelf life of SUL a while ago. Is there any truth in this, as Im sure most stations over here dont sell too much of it, and therefore it would be in their tanks for quite a while.
