This has probably been done to death but would appreciate some advise.

I recently fitted a scoobysport centre section and back box. I found that fitting the original bolts were very difficult to refit due to the fact that the scoobysport centre section had smaller holes drilled into the flange unlike the original.

So I replaced the original bolts with new ones while using large washers to accommodate the springs.

My question is do the spring have to be refitted and is the solution described above acceptable.

i did the same with mine, on my first scoob i used an angle grinder to make the original bolts fit !, on my second scoob i just replaced the bolts and used washers as you have

What the purpose of the springs?

The bolts with the springs form part of a flexible joint.

This is required as the engine tends to jump around a fair bit, so as not to put all the pressure on the studs on the back of the turbo.
Try to replace the springs if you can ~ theres less chance of a leak. Y

ou should be able to get some at most motor shops or places like kwik-fit.

no i had no probs, i guessed the springs were for a kind of flexi joint, thought as they were there i would try and refit them

I need new bolts/springs for mine, as my local exhaust place fitted straight through bolts when I got an new centre fitted. (Stupid tw**s)

Does anyone know what size they are?

Also, does the joint need any sealer or a gasket if it's prone to moving around?

Just fitted a SS centre pipe to Abbylad's car and couldn't reuse the spring bolts. Seems as though the SS pipe is generally about 15mm short.

You only need a gasket between the centre section and backbox. I was fortunate to fit my centre section in a friends workshop so we were able to raid the parts department for the correct size bolt, from what I remember the bolt was quit long about 100mm‘s with a 13mm head.
