Having been running with no recorded MAP signal to my DeltaDash I've had a look round to see if I could see anything strange going on...


Picture 1 shows that the pipe connected to Fig2 isn't going anywhere (Fig1) This can't be right!!!


Picture 2 shows where the boost gauge is plummed into my car (StiV) with Fig3 going off to the gauge, and Fig4 going off into the unknown somewhere...

My question is, if the pipe in Fig1 is open ended, is this why I'm not reading any MAP boost?

Found this thing with the foam filter on not connected to anything...I've bunged my unconnected pipe end onto it, and I now have boost readings on my DeltaDash

Well the pipe that I plugged onto it was sucking when the car was running, so I guess its some sort of breathing pipe, the foam stopping crap getting in.
I've been running with this pipe not even connected, so I'm not sure what crap I've been inhaling

When the car is idling that pipe (when it's open to the world) is sucking in (unfiltered and unmetered) air. When you are on boost, it is blowing (and therefore bleeding to some extent) air.

Ok, tried driving my car today for the first time with this pipe connected

It runs like a pig

It's misfiring and hesitating, idle hunts between 1.2k and to the point of stalling, to stalling

Has anyone got any idea if this is likley to be a MAP problem?
If I pull the pipe off the car don't stall, plug it in it stalls.

I have done some DeltaDash logs of the car idling badly if that will help.

ps) Is running with this pipe disconnected going to cause damage, it was like it when I bought the car, I think I'm going to get in touch with trading standards.

 

I know nothing but:-

If it runs ok with the pipe D/C'd....
But not when plugged into the Filter....
Is it not possible that the filter needs cleaning/replacing??

Don't try this unless u ask someone else, butt would seem logical to me.

 

The pipe should be connected ... without it you were running with boost control and other controls at atmospheric ... not good.

Sounds as though the ecu has learned some adjustment, did you do a reset ? If so and its still the same try another maf.

The filter is there to prevent the map sensor being contaminated with possible oil vapour etc.

Yes I did do an ECU reset to clear the error codes I had stored,
12 starter signal
45 pressure sensor
44 turbocharging pressure control signal
24 open/short in ISC valve circuit

No faults have been recorded since the reset, but the car fails to run with the pipe connected. I think its a safe bet that the person that had the car before me had this problem and someone's decided to pull this pipe to mask the trouble so the car could be sold.

You think it could be the MAF causing the problem with the pipe connected then?

 

Can anyone tell me if its worth me buying a new MAF?

I can now hardly drive the car, it stalls all the time, even with this pipe disconnected

 

have you tried cleaning all these pipes then plugging them in?

they should DEFINATLY be connected, unless someone has done some re-gigging of the pipes.
in theory, it should be the other way round - i.e. bad idling/running when unplugged !

just had a thought....

if your IDLE VALVE is naffed (as error code indicates), then no air would be getting past on closed throttle, so it would run crap. Unplugging this, means air CAN get past, so it idles better.
plugging it back in caused it to idle / run badly again.

could be the Idle Control Valve that's at the bottom of all this & the pipe pulling off was (as you say) just a bodge!

Emm, so what's it gonna be
ISCV, MAP, or MAF

I expect my DeltaDash could tell me if I knew what the frick I was looking for

I did an ECU reset, even though the car is stalling and idle is really bad, its not recorded any new error codes.

 

I'd have a look at the ISCV & see if you can see if it's working.
there is some adjustment on mine (2 screws with elongated holes).

but if you take it of, you could try seeing if it moves etc.

& then also measure voltages from the MAF (or via DeltaDash)
& mayb you could compaire logs with a similar MYxx car

not an easy one I admit!

might be throttle position too. there is some adjustment on the switch too.

sorry..just making it worse!

Well, thanks to Bob (who kindly checked my Delta Logs and diagnosed the problem) a new MAF arrived today from Cheam Motors (thanks to them for getting the part so quick)

Fitting was a 30 second job, instant cure to my problem

The car runs perfectly with the pipe fitted and Idle is superb

Gave it my first real sqeaze of gas coming onto the motorway today I LOVE IT
