Seen this done on several track days etc. Just wondering if its a wise thing to do, or just a lazt wa of getting the car off the deck quickly!

This point (along with the towing eye on the front) has been recommended to me by a Subaru mechanic.

Yep, it's fine. I almost sh@t myself when I first tried it as the diff does move like it's about to snap off

Use a thickish piece of wood between the diff and the trolley jack to prevent any damage.

I thought that using a bit of wood would be a sensible pecaution.

I used to think that the wood was necessary too. After I saw a pumpkin apart I decided it's not necessary. It's cast iron and more than 1cm thick. You could lift 2 cars by it without making a mark. Even my thin Subaru diff protector wasn't marked by a floor jack.
