Interested to hear from anyone that has had a Scoobysport back box and then changed the mid-section...

Toying with the idea of getting the Magnex decat centre without resonator to add to my SS BB...

Increase in power? increase in noise?

Should I wait and spend the extra for the resonator?

Scoobysport mid-section has no resonator I believe so will this be similar to magnex without resonator?

Thanks for any opinions

Sod the extra cash for the ss mid. Get the non resonated Magnex for £50.

 

Was my thoughts too Brun but couldn't work out why they did the resonated one..?

I suppose someone that might want faster but not too loud I guess..

Going to try and persuade me Dad it is a sensible Christmas present!! going to be tough as he thinks a car is purely A to B...

I have ss backbox and mid section, increase in power,yes.

Lovely sound, the other half cannot understand why i drive with my window open in all weather.

timed that post well JGM, about 1 1/2 hours ago I ordered a s/s scoobysport straight through mid section. will be here in a couple of days I expect oh and an up pipe

trouble is I have the prodrive backbox not the s/sport one, so not quite the sound comparison your after

Are there any digital sound recorders on the market ? perhaps I could post up the sound difference after fitment of each

JGM - just tell ya dad, your present mid section has a hole in it and you don't see the point of replacing it with the OE steel section. Stainless = lifetime of no rust.
Technically you won't be telling porkies about the hole, actually your centre has two as standard if you see where i'm coming from.
This was the angle i used when i got my bb.

It is more that he will say that it is not exactly a present..

Previous years my wife has given him a list of stuff I have asked for... and suggested he chose one off the list.. each year he has decided he didn;t like what I *WANTED* and got some other item that he thinks I might like... but of course I didn't..
Oh well.. fathers.. huh.. I am sure I'll be the same..

You dont get the real scooby throb till you junk the resonator, do it, do it now !

 

Had SS bb then mid, then changed back to std mid !
On motorway trips at a steady 80mph the noise was too much. I am not kidding - I know loud (played in rock bands for 20 yrs and now a bit mutton jeff!). If you dont do m/ways go for the SS one.
I would go for the resonator every time - pardon ?
I believe the std mid is "straight through" anyway ??

I noticed a difference when I went from STI (decat with resonator) centre and SSBB to TSL centre and SSBB. More of the right noise on WOT . Not sure anymore power (was quick before and decatted centre as standard ) but it seems to revs better and cleaner.

 

STi system - quite quiet but a burble at idle.
+ scoobysport backbox - the essential scooby sound and better low down response with less jerkiness in traffic.

+ magnex resonator mid section - not much more noise but better midrange response where the std sti mid seemed quite restrictive.

+ scoobysport DP - quite a lot more noise, too much for me at the time and quite a hard edged sound complete with wastegate chatter. Nice crispy throttle response though and lots of smooth revvy top end power. I think I will have to get one again soon especially now I have deltadash to check for knock and fuelling

 

Any relation to Jon Chadwick the electrician, down here in the south.

I have a magnex resonated centre waiting to go on.

If you look on the dynomite scoobies website, you will see that Mark Aigin commented the resonated Magnex centre was possibl quieter than the factory (sti) unit, while it still offered an apparent increase in power.

I got mine for £55 used

Hi,

Not exactly what you wanted to hear but I have experience of the Oem (catted) center, the Magnex Resonated and the Magnex non-resonated (in that order) with my ScoobySport BB and DP.

Going from the std center to the magnex resonated one was actually a little quieter and smoother sounding, although it pulled better right across the rev range. I didn't think that the resonator could make that much difference until I put the straight through center in, and my car now has a much deeper note with a sharper bark in the mid range. As for performance difference with the straight through center, can't really say it feels any different over the resonated one.
