Please anyone tell me what type of oil for gearbox ?.

i got mine from the subaru dealer down the road. dont know what it is, as i just took a container and the filled it from the drum. its the stuff they use for all turbo'd subarus.

think from memory you need 4 litres.

I suggest that you use a good quality fully synthetic GL-5 rated gearbox oil.Impreza boxes need all the protection they can get particularly 4th and 5th.GL-5 is the highest rating for performance cars.I use a Castrol product called SAF-XO.I buy it from my local BMW garage.Its the same stuff that BM put in M3 and M5.In the UK I would suggest the GL-5 rated gearbox oil that Mobil supply for fitment in Porches.It is expensive but bear in mind it will be in your box for much longer than engine oil and it will give you peace of mind.Remember to shake the bottles well because the heavy additives sink to the bottom and tend to get left behind on application.Good luck

 

I have tried various oils in the box. Use Castrol Syntrax, as many many members here will agree.

Alot of people use Silkolene Syn5 which is 75w90 and the GL5 spec.
Morris Lubricants (who are in Shopshire) also do a 5 litre container of synthetic 75w90 which is GL5 speced.
