Different EVO6 versions..??
Can one of you friendly, in the know kind of people tell me what the different versions of the EVO6 are all about. I thought there was just the MAK.. 340, standard and RS, but was going to look at one on Saturday 'till they said it didn't have the active yaw control..surely this is the best reason for buying one??? so, what are all the other versions and what are they missing???
thanks terribly much
thanks terribly much
Evo 6 GSR is the 'standard' car. It has ABS and the active yaw control, and a few more gadgets inside. At least a couple of them I've sat in have had leather, but I don't know if that's standard.
RS is the lighter more stripped out version. Has less toys, less electrics etc... and does without the ABS and AYC. I seem to remember that there was an RS2 as well, though I could be wrong. Both RS's are really there for people to strip and use to build up rally cars.
There was an RSX which was a Ralliart special edition that tried to keep some of the good bits of the GSR, was like a half way house between the RS and the GSR. A slightly more affordable way of buying an Evo.
Extreme was just exactly what it said on the tin. Stripped tuned and nothing but a tarmac terrorist. Power was around 330bhp if I remember correctly, once again, I could be wrong. There was an option from Ralliart (and others really) to do something really mad and have the engine converted to 450bhp, could have that done to a 5 or 6.
Then the Makkinen. Had a different bumper which did without the fogs. Titanium turbo, and other small mods. Sometimes referred to as the Evo 6.5. That could be bought in normal colours or with the rally style stripes down the side.
There may be other versions but I don't know of them, I'm only a newbie!

Here you go Dominic. This is all the variants of the Evo 6 that I know of.
Evo 6 RS
========
Stripped out version, designed for Group N rally preparation. No air-con, ABS, AYC. Also does without Recaro seats and Brembo brakes. Comes with steel wheels, quick ratio steering rack (2.2 turns lock to lock) and short ratio gearbox. Brakes, seats and wheels can be added back into spec. as factory fit options. Only available in Scotia White (I think). Japanese only model, but available through Ralliart UK for rally prep. purposes.
Evo 6 RS Sprint
===============
Ralliart UK version of RS, with Stage 1 engine upgrade. Boosted power to about 330bhp.
Evo 6 RS-2
==========
Based on RS version, but has air-con, Recaro seats, 17" OZ alloys and Brembo brakes. Also has longer ratio gearbox from GSR. Available in Scotia White and Silver. Japanese only model.
Evo 6 RSX
=========
Ralliart UK version of the RS-2 model. Same specification.
Evo 6 GSR
=========
As RS-2, but with ABS, AYC (active yaw control), climate control. Has different steering rack (2.7 turns lock to lock). Much wider colour choice available.
Evo 6 RS Tommi Makinen Edition
==============================
As RS, but with modified suspension setup (better suited to UK roads). Also has re-styled front bumper that loses holes for fog/driving lights and Tommi Makinen monogrammed Recaro seats. Dash instrumentation is also changed with Red on black lettering. Available only in Scotia White. Japanese only model.
Evo 6 GSR Tommi Makinen Edition
===============================
As GSR, but with modified suspension setup (better suited to UK roads). Also has re-styled front bumper that loses holes for fog/driving lights and Tommi Makinen monogrammed Recaro seats. Dash instrumentation is also changed with Red on black lettering. Similar colour to choice to GSR. Unique colour (Red) with rally decals also available.
Evo 6 Monte Carlo
=================
Yet another Ralliart UK special. Based on the Evo 6 RS Tommi Makinen, but with the Stage 1 performance upgrade. Really just an updated RS Sprint. Made to celebrate 4 consecutive Tommi Makinen victories on the Monte Carlo rally (or so I believe).
Evo 6 Extreme
=============
Ralliart UK special. Based on the RS-2 but with some interesting performance tweaks. Developed about 340bhp / 350lb/ft torque. 18" Alloys and AP Racing brakes (6-pot calipers at fronts, 4 at rear). Unique bodykit and available in White and Silver only.
Evo 5/6 RS450
=============
Again, a Ralliart UK special. Not too many of these were sold from new, but you could also have the bits fitted to an existing car. Similar engine spec. to the Extreme, only developing 450lb/ft torque. Contrary to popular belief the 450 in RS450 refers to the torque and not the horsepower. The most horsepower I've seen on one of these is about 380bhp.
I think that's about it. If I've made any mistakes than I am sure someone will correct me. Those models I've marked as Japan only have never officially been imported under the Mitsubishi UK banner, but are available through grey importers.
Personally, I own an RSX, and think it's brilliant. If you are thinking about getting an Evo, then any of the above would be a good choice. If I'd had the money, then I would probably have gone for the standard GSR.
Andy.

Makinen GSR also has:
1) Bigger intercooler
2) Titanium turbo
3) Better cooling properties on internals
4) More efficient backbox
5) Enkei Wheels
6) Strut Brace
7) Colour coded internals
8) A spoiler to write your name on

thanks bagpuss, very informative post. can i ask a couple of questions?
do you know how short the ratios are in the rs and rs sprint - are they annoying-on-the-motorway short?
also, why would you have prefered a GSR? on paper i've always thought of the RSX as the one to go for.
thanks in advance,
