Purple Scooby at Trax
Hi -
Refering to the comments on the heavily modified Purple Scooby on the Redline stand (not Revs!!) anyone wanting to find out more information should check out Redline on sale September 14th.
I appreciate it isn't to everyone's tastes but for the majority of the people there it was quite simply the car of the show.
On another note as someone who had BOTH my track sessions cancelled due to crashes (the Festa and the Porsche) I can vouch for the abysmal driving displayed by many individuals, who obviously hadn't a clue…
Cheers
Dan

Have only seen pictures of it but.....
What an abortion. I have seen some horrendous 'modifications' but that takes the biscuit.
A sad day when the mighty Impreza gets into the 'means' and hands of the Max Power brigade
Edited - thanks 14,500 rpm

The guy who built it has done some weird mods - Like an M3 front bumper on the rear! Civic lights! And arches intended for a BMW E36… There I've said too much already, you'll have to buy the mag to find out more!

It's a shame you feel that way Gary, you're in the minority - Admittedly it'd be no good for chucking round a track, but that's not why the guy built the thing!
Throughout the whole day there was a swarm of people round the car, it was a massive hit, for both his company and our magazine.
Also it seems a shame that there is this 'us and them' feeling that many Scooby owners seem to bang on about just so no-one thinks their bewinged, alloyed Impreza is anything to do with the Kevin's of this world...

I've no problem with people bolting on whatever they like to their cars. Nobody's forcing us to buy it(cept maybe the MY01
). I've seen the photo's and it does, shall we say look unique.
Looking unique is part of the charm of modding a car, obtaining better performance/handling are the others.
Most of us have added bits to the car to change it's looks, be it carbon fibre effect headlight covers to full on wings and extra scoops. Show the average, standard out of the showroom Impreza to an old dear who drives a metro and she would think it looks quite ridiculous. It's all a matter of taste
People mod cars for fun, to have a laugh and it's clear that the owner of said purple car likes it, otherwise they would'nt have paid loads to have it done.
My personal opinion is that it would look 'better' in black. But then that's my choice. Maybe his name is Ron and he wanted to be called purple Ronnie? I dunno. Give the guy a break, but just don't park your car too close to his. It might be catching

I haven't a problem with it at all - in fact I like the arch extensions
Would someone do a paintbrush on it and make it DGM?
Not seriously interested for PTMW! but you never know

Did anyone see the size of the spacers needed to fit the wheels
!
I quite liked it in principle (as in I appreciated the effort gone into it), but totally despised the way that it turned a total drivers car into nothing more than a static display.
I agree with Craig, the NA one did it for me. More subtle and a total "weapon" in the driving mode of operation, which is what a car is supposed to be surely
?
If I want something pretty to look at, I'll buy a painting....
Cars are for DRIVING to the "Redline"......(IMHO of course).

Unfortunately, that is "Euro" look...
The majority of French/Belgian/Spanish "performance" cars are done in this lairy Halfords look, cos they can't make any engine modifications.. so they got to spend there money on plastic Kits and Loud in ya face paint jobs..
But the word on the "Max Power" street is that Big Mica/Pearl/Metallic paint flips will be big here in the UK next year..
Best Bring the Pain killers & Sunglasses to help us from the glare.. Ouch
So I best invest in a Spray booth!! Yipee

I like, I would have had a photo if I hadn't broked mi camera
It has to be said the interior is fantastic, the monitors in the dash and headrests, really neat.
RE the spacers, pah, nothing, you obviously didn't see that F40 Escort cab thingmy! It must drive like a bag of s***! It can't have any suspension travel either judging by the gap from tyre to flimsy looking fibreglass arch.
Bob, owner of Fiesta with stoopid wheels, cracked bumper extension and strange clear rear light clusters

That purple Scooby on the Redline stand doesn't really fit in to the 'cheap' or the 'available' catagory now does it?

I was equally disheartened to see the Courtenay Nova, how they could have the cheek to actually make a Nova go quick. Disgusting.

well its certainly provoking a lot of comment so its gotta be a good feature car to help sell the mag, which is the idea !
i'll look forward to seeing it and forming my own opinion in a week or so.
i read max p / revs and redline amongst others (can i actually say that without being drummed out of scoobynet ?
) - whilst i dont personally like / would not wish to own many of the modded cars i see, i can appreciate the work (and money !) invested and its certainly true that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'.
cheers

Like Dan, i do find it a little sad that a fellow scoob enthusiast is getting a bit of stick for what they/he/she whatever did to that car, at the end of the day if there a scoob enthusiast thats enough for me regardless what they do it, so long as they are happy
imho the interior looked stunning, and the work involved so far beyond my comprehension that i can't help but admire it.
It doesnt all appeal to me, but you gotta give the guy credit for doing something different other than chucking on the normal zorst, induction, wheels routine.
hats off to him i say.
On a slightly different note, in some ways the cars getting to the 'max power' brigade as stated above means that companies will continue to support our cars with performance parts etc and not forget about them.
Something my two Lancia owning friends are very envious of, They struggle to find bits etc.

I was pi..ed off when I saw the Purple Scooby on Redline stand,I thought I had the only Purple 4 door Scooby in the world. My Scooby has been Purple now for over 2 years so at least mine was Purple first, making it original.I could not believe the poor qaulity of the mods on the wide arched Impreza, aswell as a lot of the other cars on the magazine stands.I work in the motor trade and would be ashamed to admit to carrying out work to such a poor quality as found on a lot of these cars. These cars look okay from a distance, but close up in the flesh you notice nothing lines up or fits properly,a lot of the fiberglass panels where cracked and out of shape.I am the first to admit my car is not perfect, but it appeared to be in a different league quality wise to a lot of these other so called professionaly modified cars that appear in so many magazines.Around the rest of the show there where some very well, and very proffesionaly modified cars completed to a very high standard,it is ashame these cars do not receive more attention than the general over the top rubbish that makes it in the mainstream modifing magazines.
Colin.
p.s. did anyone see the purple(I know purple again) RX7,was that sexy or what! and 600bhp apparantly.
