Question

Now I know my surname is KING, and one could say a mans home is his castle but approaching a set of lights a while ago I came to a stop to turn right, I noticed a fixed camera ahead of me at the lights and a retail park to the right of me with Courts, JJB, etc....my detector started bleeting out "DRAWBRIDGE UP" !!??? and flashed level 1 ?
Got me confused anyway.
S'pose it would have been useful for the floods we had earlier this year though

Mellow,

You should post which lights they were so others can try it! Did this happen just the once or does it happen everytime you go there?

Is this a wind-up and am I being gulible like the fool I am?

Thumbs up

No ZAZ, it's for real mate, it's only happened the once so far (today), what's strange is that the unit doesn't have the facility to start saying "things" out of it's factory set up....doesn't it ?
Unless........nah....
Beam me up Scotty !

Sounds like someone has a SWS (Safety Warning System) transmitter, and is having a larf!!

Sorry to dissapoint the doubters but it has happened to me a couple of times now. I will make a note of where I am next time.

1st time I turned the radio down to check I had heard correctly.

I guess it means a bridge like Tower Bridge -- could have a SWS transmitter on that in case somebody doesn't notice the vertical bit of road in front of them?

I was wondering if this is how the UK police are going to make radar detectors useless.

A fairly constant random SWS or even K band radar up and down the motorways etc would make them pointless.

Bri,

they probably won't do such a thing (constant random SWS or even K band radar), 'cos they might as well try to catch you in the first place - makes more money, er, improves road safety!

Also, if on your journeys you regularly detect, say, K-band on a certain stretch of road from, say, a garden centre or cell-phone base station, and then get nicked on said road by radar - you would have a very strong case to suggest signal interference, and thus an inaccurate reading. Something that you could not do without a detector
