In the early hours of the morning (~3:00am) a man was held at gunpoint outside a chipshop in Birmingham by two men wielding shotguns.

The man was shot in the leg before the thieves made off with the Impreza Turbo.

Check evening news for more info.

The moral of the story is to just give them your keys. As much as you love your car, is's not worth dying for.

Nasty.

Have to agree with SWOLL - no matter how much you like your car, it's just a lump of metal and plastic. It ain't worth risking your life over - this is the reason you have insurance!!

ditto

question is, what other types of cars have this problem? I only see the subaru side of things cos that's what I own, and that is what this bbs is mainly about. OK, so somone mentioned their escort cabriolet getting nicked.

Do Lancer EVO owners have the same problem? what about elise owners?

just curious.

as said in the past, not a day goes past these days without a post by someone sainy they have had their scooby nicked. It's a sad state of affairs.

This is one of the reasons I opted for an Elise rather than a Scooby : Scooby's are stolen for use as getaway cars. An Elise would get away fast, but would not stand up to bashing other cars out of the way in a police pursuit (also it takes far too long to get in and out of the buggers !).
Be careful out there guys..

And we all know which magazine voted the scoob the best getaway car. Thanks fellas.

I get the feeling though that it is most makes of car. Plenty of M3s going missing recently too.

Do Subaru do a range of push bikes?

On a more serious note - THIS IS VERY VERY WORRYING!!!!

Hope the B*stards get whats due to them! as mentioned prob about 3 months community service

Just another thought:-

Apart from paying well over the top for car insurance, will life cover policies in the near future ask if you take part in dangerous sports and DO YOU DRIVE A SCOOBY......?

Scooby ownership scares me to death!

This is indeed a sad state of affairs, my condolences go out to the guy and I hope he recovers swiftly with no ill effects.

Which ones are they targetting? Any? My mum is now paranoid about being raided at home, it is no getting to the point where she wants me to be rid of it or move out as she does not want the danger. My sister would be at very high risk being a special needs person.

I think the time has come for me to hang my keys up until I can afford somewhere with a very secure garage

Michelle.

Things are getting well out of hand in Brum at the moment. In addition to this theft, a 22B was also stolen a couple of days ago (see other thread), and in the last week there have been several shootings (and don't forget, ownership of hand-guns was banned years ago).

How can so much serious crime be happening, and yet so little getting cleared up?

agree with boomer.also this part of town is known for drug related gang warfare.however thats not the point is it.everyone has a basic human right to enjoy the fruits of their labour without being shot.Deprerssing isn't it.

its not just scoobies its M3's and audi's and even mercs.
So don't get too spooked.just be careful@ 0300 in ahigh risk area outside a chip shop.
I jus hope the bar stewards who did it get uncurable gonad rot!!

I wouldn't worry to much. Inside sources tell me that the high powered Merc/BMW diesels are the getaway car of the moment.

They can cruse at 130mph+ and use less than 1/2 the fuel of the chasing gas guzzling police car - thus they can go for twice as long.

Common sence tho, give them the keys and call the insurance, oh, and fit a tracker.

What makes you think he didn't " Just hand over the keys"

They might have shot him anyway because it makes them feel hard.

I think its time to fit a web cam attached to a laptop in the boot, to catch them on video.

Assuming you can believe the press reports it took 3 of them to get the car after a struggle. Sounds to me like he didn't just hand over the keys.

Hope the injuries are not too severe.

Sickening that the police are proud of their "crime" clearup rates for catching people going 3mph over the limit when scum like this are about.

This is really worrying, if they don't break into your house to still the keys, they just attack you on the street.

Can't help thinking though - 3am, dodgy area, 3 guys with guns and balaclavas - may be this driver made a habit of stopping at this place and they were just waiting for him?

I know there are losts of other cars being stolen like this, but I just can't help that we're asking for trouble in our Scoobies.

Oh and then his younger brother got beat up at school for his pokemon cards.

This is nothing knew. The items get more expensive and the weapons get more lethal.

We are not asking for trouble by owning somthing nice - it makes you wonder what the bloke was doing at 3am outside a chippy doesn't it.

It doesn't matter what car you have nowadays, my dad was attacked in Birmingham for a Peugeot 306 Tdi, wheres the logic in that one?

Hope the bloke is ok - but they will never catch the people who did it, the police can't be bothered with things that they might actually have to investigate and work at.

well that's just my view, I'll get off my soap box now!

If I am to belive that he did put up a bit of a fight.I am tempted to say "Prat"
They had a gun.It was a public place, god knows what could have happend or who could have got hurt.

Sure I feel for the guy and his family. yes i wish the scum get srewed. But that will might not happen with the way the Police are told to be these days (Note I am not going down the" Police do nothing "road, Blame the problem on THE law and this Goverment)

Everyone has to be on the ball these days with the amount of scum walking the streets.

But our lives are more important that a car. That is for Hollywood etc.

Let them have the keys ,keep quiet and let your insurance take it from there.

Thank god he is alive.

I am just taking delivery of my first UK scooby on Wednesday - a P1, and am subsequently somewhat horrified by the amount of crime that is associated with this marque.
Having survived a T bone 80 mph accident in Oz, driving a standard MY00 Impreza with nothing more than a dislocated shoulder, I have bought this car because it is as fast as my old Esprit V8 on public roads but safe too (no more plastic!). I got the P1 over any other car because of it's performance, fun, understated supremacy and genuine practicality but am very worried about the 0.5% of this country that want to key/nick/hijack/arrest me. I can't belive in this day or age that this kind of sh*t still goes on...Full sympathies go to both victims (carjack and 22b)

Have to say that came to my mind too - the shootings going on around Leeds and Manchester are scary, but they don't tend to involve "innocent bystanders" if you see what I mean....

Still enough Scooby crime going on against proper innocent bystanders (me!) to be a pain though!!
