Question

I have now got HIDs in standard headlights (long story)...my question, as I have now only got dipped beam is it legal?

Also, if I fit 'driving lights' in place of the fogs, will this make them legal?

Does that make sense

Yes, it's legal (assuming they are E marked). Main beam without dip isn't

Makes the drive lamps as main beam question irrelevant, but you could do that too

i thought though that you had to have a main beam that was different to dip after a certain year. might be wrong but otherwise why do we have to check main beam on m.o.t's

If you do have main beam it has to be aligned correctly so it does not dazzle other road users, but I am not aware of any legislation that says you actually have to have main beam in the first place.

Why would you have to align the main beam? dips yes!
You won't dazzle others as you shouldn't have them up with oncoming traffic

Sorry MD I can't help. Go to an MOT station and ask about the legality

When I fitted the single beam HID's in my MY94 WRX I was told that I would need to put the dual beam standard bulbs back in to pass the MOT. Don't know why. I was using driving lights as my main beam. Now converted to dual beam HID's so never had to test the MOT question.

Red face

CataIunya,

Yes, it's illegal to have the driving lamps wired to come on with dipped. They *MUST* be used with the main beam only.

I don't fancy meeting anyone blazing 130W in my face

Moles Dad:

Just noticed this thread and see that you have H.I.D's on a normal light setup. How was this done and how much did it cost. What supplier did you use? Sorry to badger you but i've wanted this mod since i got rid of my Audi S3.

Cheers Mate!
