2001 Impreza

Has anyone heard anything about the new 2001 Impreza?
I spoke to a Prodrive rep at autosport and he told me the new Impreza is due to be launched at the NEC in October. Can anyone confirm this? Are there any pics on the NET?

Its very likely it will be launched in October, and will be delivered November to dealers, there are no accurate pics of the finished car yet, Its due to be launched in Japan, next month i think, so there will be loads of pics available then, and also the specs will finally be released, so no more relying on the rumour mill.

From what I have heard (internet, dealers, bloke down pub etc) its going to be four door only for the first few years, slightly wider track and more comfort orientated (but hopefully not in the way the current 3 series has changed). Shock news is that it is likely we will get an official UK WRX 280 BHP version but not until 2001/2002. As I get my MY00 in the next month or so a 2 yr wait until then would fit in quite nicely, P1 owners read it and weep.

Slightly confused by your logic. As a current MY00 owner and awaiting my P1 in the same time frame as your MY00, I cant see what your saying.
If Subaru was introducing at launch a 2 door 280bhp Impreza, then yes. As it is you state that its two years away. Thats 2 years with a P1 untill the powerfull version. Same for a P1 owner as for yourself.
I would of said that you are in the slightly worse situation. Will you live with the power of the MY00 for 2 years ?. Your only hope an ECU, downpipe, backbox and maybe an induction kit.

Agreed the P1 is a fantastic car, but I can't afford one just yet, in 2002 I'll get my WRX or what ever they call it, BTW I'll source it from holland, as my MY00 with all the extras and air con is going to cost me £15 grand. Half the price of a P1. With the savings I'm getting a caterham R500, so I guess I'll be able to live without the power.
You are right though the P1 is a great car, I'm jealous, but 30 grand is too rich for me at the moment.

Aaron.
You are quite right, the P1 is a superb version of the Impreza.
In fact apart from those revolting spotlights it's almost as good as an STi, which is what it pretty much is, except without the advantage of the 4/5 door options. ;o)
