I've seen this done on a twin engined Mini cooper. He had a split throttle system which allowed him (via fancy footwork) to control each engine seperatly.

See it here

Cool

Yea, it's a sad fact of life that the EVOs/Skylines will always be that one step ahead in the power stakes..................so if you can't beat them...CHEAT

A wee winter project I was mulling over was to fit another scoob engine in the rear of my current scoob

Pro's
A reliable and user friendly 740 bhp.
700lb-ft torque coming on from 3000 rpm.
Perfect 50:50 weight distribution.
Active power distribution via pivoting F/R throttle pedal.
No expensive turbo's, ECU's or Gearboxes.
No heavier than an MY02 Scoob (or an EVO) after you discard the
original rear diff, propshaft and both centre diffs.

Probably built for under £3k + my current £8k car as a donor

Con's
A wee bit work involved
Gear shifts ? probably best with 2x auto boxes ?
Cooling system, I know charge cooling is effective up to at least my current 370bhp so probably 2x charge coolers and one front rad
Brakes ? same 4pots on rear as front ??

In the end, when it starts to feel slow again, as they all do, then I can start seriously tuning the engines 1200bhp anyone ??

Anyone think I'm joking here ?

Dubsport would probably be a good place to start - IIRC they built a Mk2 Golf with 2 VR6 lumps in it.

Was a manual, had some very odd gear linkage so both gearbox's could work together.

That pushes out over 700bhp IIR.

I thought 'auto's because apart from ease of linkage, that's what some of the most sucessfull scooby drag racers are using. Apparently the 4EAT auto box is a strong un !
Are there many around in the UK though ??

The kit car manufacturers, namely Westfield and Tiger have built kit cars with two motor bike engines running two gearboxes into a 'drive unit' on their 4WD cars - which have a 0-60 time less than 4 secs.

My scoob with one engine does 0-60 in less than 4 secs !!!

I think those kits do it in under 3 !!

Checked the dubsport site, they appear to work the gears by cables ! Manual boxes may still be on the cards then
Strange thing is, its 1/4 mile time was 12.16 ?? yet they claim 800bhp
Something not right there me thinks should be in the 9's

My plan was (is) to make a rear engined car with scoob engine.

Pro's
Lightweight
Sensible 350hp
Free transaxle
Low CofG
Short
Cheap engines available

Put that in a car that weighs 600kg (no stupid super lightweight building required) and should be pretty potent, especially if you go to 400+ HP.

Would definitely like a skyline though, wife says in a few years....

Lets see what the job market brings, garden leave from this friday in the meantime.

Andy,

If you can wait a month or two, the cheapest way I can think of, is to ask me for a tow

Wouldn't I be better asking Christian R for a tow ? After all, I read that he 'officially' has the UK's most powerfull Impreza

Paul, Loads of people have done that before though ? they're called VW Beetles

I think i can hear Davids brain ticking from hear

Me thinks he is also insane enough to try this, but would also go with the NO2 on both engines

Good luck if you do it Andy, it would be very nice to see the evo drivers face when you kick dust in their face.

May be better off trying to contact the guys that do the twin engined R5 rather than Dubsport (800hp and 12.16 1/4 lol - sounds like a US type claim )

The R5 I think has 2x200-250hp engines, twin gearboxes etc - does the 1/4 in low 11s at about 130 - very similar performance wise to Martin Hadlands Escort.

Obviously another pro for this conversion is you can just run one engine for day to day stuff like shopping - 370hp through the front wheels lol

Reckon you'd be better off with this in a wagon tho...

Andy,

I didn't claim that my car was the "fastest", just that yours would be quicker, if I gave it a tow

Mark.

Andy,

You missing the point of a rear engined subaru car, specifically that the gearbox would be behind the axle, not the other way round like a porsche and beetle.

Now that I would like to see. Can you get scoob gearboxes to run 2 wheel drive though? Is this possible? there is also an RS tubo engined pickup that has 2 RS turbo lumps and runs at santa pod. I have never seen it but it's fast apparently All twin engined cars run front wheel drive engines and gear boxes I could just see a scoob with 2 RS turbo engines LOL

Cool

Why not just drop a Porsche 911 turbo engine in it and extend the front so it will fit?

Didn't Mercedes make two twin-engined, 4WD A-classes: one for Coulthard and one for Hakkinen?

Lol @ Mark but would I still be able to breathe with all that unburned fuel

Floyd, The shopping would go in the boot of course ! The engine will be in the back seat area, with the gearbox poking through the spare wheel well Fuel tank will be, er, em, mmmm ?
