I've got an Impreza Sport that could do with a tad more oomph. The guys across the pond seem to have cracked the idea of supercharging the 2.5L engines that they get. BUT has anyone done it over here?

 

i think you will find the supercharging of the 2.5 isnt that succesful at all.

dont do it, get a turbo impreza, you will screw your insurance, screw the ability to sell the car later, the sport wont work well with its open diffs etc.

The only reason the US guys tried it was because they didnt have access to turbo Impreza's until the WRX came out.

 

Johns right...most of our SC units have been flops. Templar over at RS25.com is developing a new kit for the EJ25, so we're hopeful. Otherwise we just through the EJ20Turbo in

Thanks guys. Would love a turbo, but need the towing capacity of the Sport. It seems the turbo gets upset if you put a boat on the towbar...

Still I seem to spend my life passing turbo's on the motorways so will carry on as I was before - it seems Subaru's own performance figures are wildly inaccurate

 

I looked inot doing this myself - try here for info on one that looks as though it might make it into production.

Unfortunately, it'd probably take the best part of 5000 squid to do properly (uprated brakes, clutch, gearing etc). And trying to find insurarnce is a nightmare.

Turbo's exist for a reason, and I'm ashamed to admit defeat, but the MY03 is looking pretty tasty...

 

Hey Twiglet, watchoo mean about the Sport's towing ability?
I towed a 15 foot caravan weighing 1200 kg from my home to the south of France, then across the Ardeche, the Cevennes and the Massif, some of the steepest roads in France. I had 3 teenagers in the back, and 4 mountain bikes on the car roof!
It towed like a dream. Go for it mate!

If the 'towing capacity' thing with the turbo has got anything to do with overheating problems (seems quite possible to me), then you can just cut the boost when towing...
Can't see what any other difference would be? The compressions ratio of the Sport is slightly higher, I think, but that's about it, isn't it?
Or am I missing something

 

I just came to the towing conclusion from Scooby's own figures: 1000kg for the turbo and 1600 for the Sport. It's interesting that they put a larger load on the Sport and then give it drums on the back - real bitch when you've been in salt water.
