From what I have heard about it, the techniques may have been advanced back in the 50's, but cars have come on a bit, so most of the techniques are totally irrelevant to todays motoring.
Mate of mine went on a police driving course on his bike and said it was very good.
I thought about doing an course but having been driven by a few "advanced drivers" I dont think I will bother
.
Always fancied doing skid pan course and a fast road course.
Group buy on skid pan and fast road driving course ??

Actually if all you have ever had in the way of training is that which got you through your first test, then the Advanced course will teach you quite a bit. Sure some of the rules they have are a bit 'old fashioned', but the general gist of it is based on Roadcraft, the same manual the police use to train to Class 1 standard.

Ive seen some Police drivers and they did not impress me. Some of them are pathetic, and shouldnt be allowed on the road. Have you any idea how many police cars get crashed and written off due to bad driving???? I know of one traffic branch car locally that was stuffed big time on 3 different occasions, in under 3 months. They crash them all the time.
I did the IAM course about 5 years ago, whilst some of it did seem outdated and irrelavant to modern cars, I would say on the whole it was worth it. It certainly improved my observation, and ability to avoid the idiots out there
I've heard that the ROSPA course is better than the IAM, but as I've not been on it I can't say.
Pick whichever is most convenient to you, it can only improve you driving, not to mention the fact that you insurance might come down as well.
