Heard / seen rumours a while ago that Subaru do a 2.2, or 2.5 Supercharged version of the lovely Impreza.

1. REALLY?
2. What are the BHP / Torque / 0-60 / 1/4 mile stats
3. Where can I get one? I'd love to try it out.

Neil, his question refers to Subaru doing it - there has been a show car (the Baja), but no production models.

I know. But Subaru have'nt done a production supercharged version of anything, I don't think. Of the mainstream car manufacturers only Jaguar and Mercedes seem to go in for supercharging

You're right ! They only did the Corrado and Polo G40 did'nt they? Most vdubs only use the 1.8T engine now, if I recall.

The supercharged golf is called a golf 'ralle' (wide arches, left hand drive) the supercharged corrado is the G60, the supercharged polo is the G40...

Holden HSV offer a supercharger as a factory option on the GTS Commodore.
I read about a supercharged USA spec 2.5 bugeye in an American magazine but that was before they started to sell the WRX so the conversion may have been dropped.
Try www.turbomagazine.com for a link to a tuner or www.vortechsuperchargers.com and do your own conversion.

As far as factory forced induction goes, all we have is the EJ20turbo (ala WRX). The only other engines currently available are the EJ25 ad the H6 (found only in outbacks thus far). The EJ25 use to be our top of the line motor, since all imprezas had either a 1.8 or 2.2 except the 2.5RS. Now the 2.5RS is the low end common engine. Templar over at www.rs25.com is currently developing a SC unit for the EJ25 that may be applicable to other NA engines across the board.

It does depend on the country me thinks. For example in Greece due to the silly tax system many people cant afford 2.0L cars so they have to resort to smaller 1.4 and 1.6L engines. SOOO what Subaru Greece have done is release a 1.6 TS impreza. I know what you are all thinking, WHATS THAT?? Well its a 1.6 turbo charged flat four with 150bhp which isnt bad. I saw a couple of these examples when i was in greece about a month ago and they do look identical to the STI 4dr with genuine sti spoiler and sideskirts etc. Now dont all get excited as this car is only for the greek domestic market. All the conversions are carried out in greece and the usual warranty is still offered.

Cheers

Gerry

Interesting. I know for a fact that Subaru had plans to build a turbo-charged 1.8 litres engine which produced 208 bhp. They never did as far as i know. What else have they planned but never released (besides the 1.6T/1.8T and the motori moderni H12 piece)?

Bruce, i think the car that the thread refers to is tuned. A company in the US called Cobb Tuning offer some crazy engine upgrades ie 2.5 Litre closed deck blocks with forged pistons etc etc at very reasonable prices. Ive been on the website b4 but cant remember the url. They do have some crazy things out there.

Cheers

Regarding Cobb Tuning in the Us, have a look at the replacement engines available! Wow is all i can say! Very cheap and VERY TEMPTING. 2.5L closed deck blocks with forged pistons, rings etc etc . Marvelous, absoluteley marvelous.
