Question

Not being too impressed by my local Subaru dealer so far I am concerned as I'm picking up my new WRX soon and have had the PPP fitted but want to make sure they've done it properly and fitted all the right bits. What exactly am I looking for under the bonnet and how can I tell if bits have been fitted, etc??

Under bonnet you should see a little blue hose to the bottom left of the intercooler. The exhaust tail pipe will be one large round one, instead of the two smaller ones.

Thats it for visual signs unless you get underneath and check the rear cat has been removed.

Under the bonnet, a blue hose, labelled Prodrive, connected to the front of your intercooler.
Prodrive stamped backbox. Straight through centre pipe if you can see under the car.
AFAIK, you'd have to lift the carpet in the passenger footwell for a butchers at the ECU.
You should get a certificate with the car to verify fitting of the PPP

Additionally, your dealer may not have fitted the PPP. I think the car is sometimes transported to Banbury so Prodrive can do the work, or another dealer with a technician trained in fitting the pack.
Saying that, give your dealer a bit of credit, you could probably fit the kit yourself if they gave you it away with you in the boot!

Would be wise to get it rolling roaded too, not all PPP's have had the stated performance increases promised.

Give Power Engineering a shout, they are in Uxbridge and come highly recommended by most ppl on here.

My old WRX PPP decat got 264ft/lb and 271bhp there.

I hope you find the cost of the PPP "cost effective", have driven a few WRX's with PPP fitted, was not too impressed with the performance. have you driven one fitted yet? did they let you drive a demo with one fitted?

J Bee,

To gain access to your ECU lift the carpet in the passenger footwell and you should see a metal blanking plate at a 45 degree angle, secured by 3 or 4 screws. I had to use an impact screwdriver to get these undone on my car as they were *very* tightly done up. Underneath the protective plate is the ECU box.

How much does PPP cost on a MY02 ? and is it just

Pipe to Intercooler
ECU
Backbox /rear section de-catted ?

I've heard is't about 1600 quid... isn't that a bit harsh for the above ? I want it done, but not sure it's worth then money ?

Any thoughts ?

You're paying for not invalidating your warranty by modifying your car.
Saying that, mine's been fairly modified and i've not had any issues claiming off my warranty.

I got a certificate AND all the replaced parts boxed up to take away with me.

That was for an MY00 at Prodrive in Banbury. Things may have changed with the new-shape and dealer-fit arrangements, but I don't see why.

Richard.

Yeah.. fair enough :0) so you're paying about twice as much as the stuff costs....but at least you've still got the warranty....
