white is most common colour in Japan, the Auto isn't very popular here, if it was 'off the boat' it will need SVA MOT etc..

By the time it's all added up it's an OK deal nudging towards good but not bargain of year...

Na not a bargain, if you go to Southampton Jap auction you see nice WRXs with metallic, wheels, exhaust, manual done etc for the same money and less. I almost died of the shock the first time I visited.

Question

The Big point remains:- WHO would want a dodgy, no history, Jap Import????????????????????

AT ANY PRICE??

I mean these cars are not cheap to fix ...... you start buying cars that use parts only available in Japan on a 6 month waiting list and I dont care if it cost you £99 - it aint worth it!!

pslewis,

What are you talking about...???

Loads of people on here own imports, which come with little history... and are having just as much fun as everyone else.........

We have most of the time standard air con/climate control, engines with more power than a uk car, better interior (pre face lift scoobs), alluminium bonnets the list goes on...

You seem a regular judging by your number of posts, so why do you have the ancient views that most insurance companies have...

Imports are not all bad, ask all the STI owners...!!

6 months to get parts LOL you obviously dont know the right people .

Either believe the fairy stories or know the score .

My import has a full service history with a well know specialist and an SVA certificate and I have all the import documentation . The SVA is something you dont get with a UK model that gets a dealer PDI. An SVA costs a few hundred quid so obviously a bit more in depth than a simple PDI.

I know I brought a car which is quick, higher spec-ed and very limited edition and cost about the same as an MY00 UK at the time and now worth a few K more. If that was a bad move someone show me a good move .

Buzz,

I have to defend it.. its all true though....

Not all imports are dodgy...!!

The exhaust is loud, gets a bit to much at motorway speed, but i can put up with it.... dont think it sounds as good as yours though.... i like your sound..!

WHAT BOLLOX!! You have just seen above that no-one wants them

You know why they call them 'Grey'? Cos thats the colour the owners go when they find out all that money they paid has gone down the toilet!! on a dodgy Jap Import thats been nicked!!

Dear God ..please don't get Mr Lewis started again....for him, in the middle of the Subaru factory is one shining production line where UK bound cars are lovingly hand built by dedicated craftsmen and women. Buffed, polished and quickly dispatched overseas before the locals realise that ONLY UK CARS ARE THE REAL THING
All the rest for the domestic market, Australia and America are cobbled together round the back of some potting sheds by three disfunctional robots using folded silver paper and the rejects bin. And we buy them...what blind fools we are...ha!

Question

Errrrm, what I THINK I said was a UK car gets the money

Imports are simply not worth anything more than the melted down value of their Aluminium Bonnets!

The Imports are made in the same factory - but the UK ones are 'worked on' when they arrive on our shores - the Jap ones only have to last 3 years in the domestic market ........... the UK versions are designed to last slightly longer!! EVERYONE knows that!!

"Errrrm, what I THINK I said was a UK car gets the money"

No, you 'believe' that the UK car has greater value but neither you or I know the whole truth. Whilst in its Warrenty period this is probably true but outside that, the value is in the hands of the buyer. They can as easily be swayed by better equipment levels as by being UK sourced.

"Imports are simply not worth anything more than the melted down value of their Aluminium Bonnets!"

Oh dear...no value in the tyres then?

"The Imports are made in the same factory - but the UK ones are 'worked on' when they arrive on our shores - the Jap ones only have to last 3 years in the domestic market ........... the UK versions are designed to last slightly longer!! EVERYONE knows that!! "

Exactly which components do they manufacture to fail after 3 years. As I buy exactly the same components in the UK that are on our imports how does that work. If you are talking about the extra corrosion protection it only costs about £70 to add to an import and then what is the difference?

If you have a problem with imports then tell us why YOU have the problem. Don't use sweeping generalisations such as 'we all know none of them have ......' to bolster your statements because they are easily refuted and weaken your arguement. Go on, tell us why you have this hatred for imports.

LOL at Pete Lewis, the windup merchant strikes again

What TypeRA was saying is for the price of a brand new UK MY00 he imported his MY00 RA. Now 3 years on the UK MY00 is worth how much? 11k maybe? Now consider that MY99 stiVs go for 14k I wonder how much a MY00 RA goes for....

PS lewis ******* - all the cars are manufactured in JAPAN - they are all imported, the UK version is just a more expensive, lower spec example

I pay £990 to insure my RA so tell me where I can insure a Uk for £-10

My 98 UK use to cost me £600 with FNCB

The increase is due to higher spec and bigger performance. If you have a pay rise you pay more tax

Any more for any more

And another thing while Mr Lewis is being spanked...
Subaru will service an import, you've just gotta know the right dealers - so don't come out witht that wind up either.

Pete, just so you know, I've had three import Stis, with various sorts of history from not a lot to complete, and I have always sold them for THOUSANDS more than the equivalent age and mileage UK turbo, with no trouble at all. And two of them were white!!!

Speak what you know, rather than what you wish Stis are worth more than UK turbos. Dodgy no history early WRXs may not be, but just because they have no history does not necessarily mean there is anything at all wrong with the car. As long as its not nicked, and you get an inspection done by an expert, they can be a bargain way into Scoob ownership.

UK purchasers of imported Japanese luxury cars have a 1 in 5 chance of losing their total investment - up to £30,000 - because they may be in possession of a stolen vehicle, according to figures released today by the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS).
Cars at risk include the Toyota Landcruiser and Prada, the Lexus range, Nissan Skyline, Honda NSX, Mitsubishi Pajero and Evo, and Subaru Impreza.

Mike Crisp, of NCIS's Organised Vehicle Crime Section, said:

"The most difficult part of our job is confronting the despair of people who have their car confiscated through no fault of their own. But you cannot buy title to stolen property, even if you made the transaction in good faith."

Still want one?????????

Do yourselves a favour and buy a lovely UK standard model and have a car that lasts!!

Pete
