I was wondering what some of you thought about about the marketing used by japenese car manufacturers. It seems to me that for example subaru get hold of a car put a set of different style alloys on it and an extra cup holder in it then call it a special edition limited edition model and stick a load of silly stickers on it which to me is ridiculous.

I am thinking about purchasing an evo 6 and find a similar marketing strategy used here. The ones I looked at had would have gone twice as fast if the stickers had been removed
Don't want to start an arguement and am not wishing to be derogatry in anyway just wondered what your views are. Seems to me a similar strategy was used to market pokemon cards if you get were I am coming from.

All manufacturers do it and Ford are the masters

Escort Encores
Fiesta Freestyle
Fiesta Finesse
Focus RS

Escort RS Turbo custom

plenty of escort ltd cabrios as well

Its just a way of shifting cars with extra toys.

I will be keeping it for the forseeable future and will probably use it as more of a track car in the end but fancy one of these evo thing's aswell for a laugh. Looked at a few at the weekend at Junction 28 garage what a bunch of clowns they are.
I would only buy one from mitsubishi but just went to have a look at a few.

You obviously are very ignorant of what is under the skin of Subaru "limited edition" models.

Subaru are very short on stickered up limited editions where they slap a badge or sticker on.

For example, my car is a WRX STi5 TypeRA V-Limited. A bit of a mouthfull but all that stuff actually means something.

The WRX has a higher spec engine than a UK/Euro standard Impreza turbo.
The STi5 has an even higher spec 280BHP engine as standard. (what was the co55ie, 220BHP wasnt it)
The TypeRA has less weight and diferent close ratio gearbox with electonic centre diff control, LSD front/rear, bigger driveshafts, bigger hubs, bigger brakes, quickrack etc etc
The V-Limited has a special interior pack that includes automatic air con, sports seats, electric windows/mirrors (the normal RA is light weight and doesnt have all the luxuries)

Look a little deaper co55ie, the limited editions are all technically diferent, they are not a badge exercise such as used by ford.

Yes my car was originally 224 bhp but now its 440 bhp and will run at 540 bhp for trackdays thats double waht yo have got

co55ie....how long does it go to 500+ before it goes bang? had so many cossies trying to play that i don't bother anymore....why did ford stop making em anyway? reliability of a french *****....can't you find a cossie forum where you can brag about your mythical horsepower and how it has more bhp than a highly tuned skyline when santa claus has it on the dyno with rudolph et al driving it!!!!!

John,
you missed the fact that your car has a cup holder too
Anyway if you wanted to sit there and say that the cosworths were wonderful just have a look at how easily they were beaten back in the mid 80's by (its quite scary really) a Renault 11 turbo (1.4ltr!) and no doubt that renault had a few of these as special editions too (except they have probably all rusted away lol! )
So if a car like an Escort cossie Monte carlo is a special edition then an STi V-ltd is a special special edition due to the fact there are mechanical changes over the standard version STi (thus making the only real sierra/escort cosworth special edition the RS500 )

Not at all I wondered what your views on car manufacturers in general regurgatating the same old stuff with different badges and ltd edition monica,s of which the jap manufacturers seem to be most guilty of of late. In my opinion its so that they can under invest in a product. Scoobies are either 210 ish or 280 with a mix and match of different brakes, boxes etc don't kid yourselves into thinking you own a unique car.
The thread was not posted as my car is better than yours either. I will be purchasing an Evo extreme this month and was amused by the huge quantatity of names and labels given to the evo range of cars and the childish stickers stuck on them the cars are very nintendo cute and twee. Of course as this isn't a scooby it will obviously be crap too just like a cossie. Let me tell you the baby evo will be used as a run around and is about as quick as 1 litre fiesta in comparison to the cossie it really is not in the same league. I was merely amused at some of the stupid stickers and marketing used to sell these cars. Just as the ignorance and jealousy of many members of this scooby community amuses me but not quite as much as some of your car's and just how world beating they are.

Cossie,
the Extreme is a good car, but it really depends what you want?
Check out www.lancerregister.com and they will give you more info on the cars (Evo6 TME etc)

Tony

(ps there isnt anything wrong with the cossie, its just that people for some reason come on here giving us jap car drivers grief )
