Anyone haggled down the price of new WRX
I'm thinking of getting a new model WRX.
Has anyone managed to haggle a few quid off one (for cash like!)Or is it a case of waiting list and full price only?
I can't really be arsed importing, but would if the waiting time is similar.

Check out the midlands Auto Trader. There is a large Car Supermarket in Shefield that has cars with delivery millage only. Very competetive prices, cheaper than main dealer.

I also paid cash for a UK300 but couldn't get anything off.
I did get some extra's thrown in.
Prodrive exhust
darkened windows
Remote control scooby
Prodrive fleece/jacket
retail value of about £700 ish The garage gave a very friendly and professional service though.(just in case they're looking in) Juk

Not sure about ex demo cars. I thrashed my dealers demo WRX (purely for scientific testing purposes) when it only had 30 miles on the clock - felt sorry for it. Don't think I would buy one of those myself.
I think I would buy a non import uk car from dealer. Some imports have long wait and supermarket cars are just more expensive imports.

First, I negotiated quite a healthy trade in (£500 more than glasses guide said my old car was worth).
Then I got them to chuck in a WRX mat set. Cos they're 60 squid. which is harsh since they're crap and wearing out already.
Also, if your dealer don't have the car you want, try another. I know my local dealer (Oakley garage) had 3 new wrx's in stock on saturday.

I was recently offered £1000 off list on a new 4 door WRX from a main dealer, in stock for immediate delivery, I ordered an import from Belgium to save another £4000 !!!
Shop around, many dealers seem to have new WRX's in stock - you should be able to get a resonable discount.
I saw an import at a Ford dealer near Preston, it had been registered and they wanted more than I could get a UK car for.

The 'average' (I know it's a subjective term!) discount for a new UK dealer WRX would be £750 plus the Mica paint at £250 thrown in FOC.
Also there are deals to be had on the options/dealer accessories as other people have shown in this thread.
Good luck!.
Gareth.

WHERE ARE YOU LOT GOING FOR YOUR IMPORTS ????????????????????????????????????
I imported an MY01 5 months ago (well actually bought a stock car but I will explain)
I have imported 3 cars now so know the ins and outs. I was in buying for quite a number of years so generally don't get walked all over
I find that the super low prices don't stack up and they tend to be from small companies so how can they do it less than you can (I don't believe that they get that scale of discount and most dealers are generous to private buyers on the continent)
Beware - my second from Denmark was 9 months late and ended in the courts.
If you take a massive Dutch dealer Aalsmeer -TODAY they quote 49,900 NGL which is approx £14,000. (don't forget VAT for customs £2500)
This vehicle is NOT UK spec and the price of the extra's plus only allowing £250 to collect it and drive it back - Unijet flight and ferry and petrol - brings price to £17,500 and you have miles on your new car !
So I reckon that You will pay £17,100 to £17,500 for UK spec OTR at your house with a quoted 5-6 month wait. Autotrader has similar ex stock available for for £18k but I don't think they are full UK spec. I paid £18k 5 months ago for full UK spec.
What is the lowest actual PERSONAL import cost for OTR zero miles full UK spec MY01 4 door WRX - not a friend of a friend as they tend to exaggerate to justify ?!!!
Honest answers please !

I'm getting round to importing as I tried to get a sensible price (compared to an import anyway) from a dealer in Scotland but whichever way the cookie crumbled it still came to approx £26K OTR including finance(ouch). They seemed really keen to do business (by the way they kept contacting me) and eventually offered me an extra £1K on my p/ex (suppose this could be a discount but it only brought it nearer to price in Parkers) so eventually we agreed that they weren't getting anywhere. Got the impresssion that they couldn't shift the cars but wouldn't talk "discount." Could have had the demo for approx £19K I think with all the tarting up bits on it to make it more appealing but I'd prefer a non-thrashed one.

Thanks Polarbearit......... but still have never heard from anyone who has PERSONALLY got a full UK spec OTR to their door and emptied their bank account of less than £17k
Come on - must be loads of people who have MY01 EU imports ??????????????? What was the TOTAL cost to park it on your drive ?????????????

Well done super slider - at last we hear some real truths about imports.
Personally I think £15K for a brand new UK-spec WRX is a load of bo!!ocks and always has been.
If someone can show me evidence to the contrary, then I'll eat my words.

In reply to Scoobyebye, I have a 2002 WRX 4 Door WR Blue UK spec on order. The total cost of the car including Keyring cars fee, delivery, registration and VAT is £15750.
The car will be with bucket seats which saves approx. £200 over sports seats.
I have fixed the exchange rate with the bank so no nasty suprise in January when my car is delivered.
I estimatate the total cost for the car with:
Alarm.
First Service.
3 Years breakdown cover.
Bank charges.
Will be less the £16500 !
The currency isn't as good now so if you order now it will probably cost around £300 more.
Cheers
Edward

father jack, the cars from Motorpoint are imports - you'd be surprised at the number of dealers selling imports off their forecourts - some say they are imports and some don't.
the reason import prices vary so much between importers usually boils down to the discount.
If I import a scooby, or any other car for that matter I get a level of discount e.g. 10%.
I can then either give all of the discount to the customer or keep some back for myself as a "kick back " payment, which the dealer pays to me once the car is paid for.
Thats why some importers have a very low fee, as they arrange a large percentage of their discount to be converted to a kick back payment to make up the short fall due to their low fee.
Some importers give all of their discount to the customer but then charge a much higher fee so all in all its swings and roundabouts really.
At 1.62 Euro's / £ I would quote a scooby delivered at £15,900.00.
Often the differences in quotes can also be put down to the exchange rate used to calculate their prices.

Hi Everybody!
Just for the record, Last year (May 2000) I imported a UK spec sonic blue turbo (minus locking wheel nuts and alarm but immobiliser included - this was as close to UK spec as you could get at the time from Netherlands)
After the costs of everything except the alarm the cost to me was about £14700. I chose to have an expensive alarm fitted but could have got one for about £300. (BTW - you can't have your cat one alarm fitted abroad it has to be done by a VSIB certified installer and since this is a UK standard, this means it has to be done in the UK)
So you can see that it was possible to get one for about £15000 once upon a time
So please don't say its B******s and that this was never possible.
Today, because of changes in list price, and exchange rate fluctuations the best you are going to be able to do is very approximately £16500 all in.
However many people talk as if they have first hand knowledge when they do not. These people may still be quoting last years prices for imports
Ask one of them to get you one for £15K - make sure the agreement is in writing

Dr Nick,
Was the car completely UK spec? Superslider listed absolutely everything which was an added cost to the base price.
People always quote low prices, but when you add up all the extras it doesn't appear to be savings of £5K as everyone bragged on about.
Personally, I'd need to see hard facts to believe some of the prices.

Ozzy, a few hard facts for you:
I have a written quote from the garage I ordered my car from in Belguim, the total price for a UK Spec WRX 4 door in WR blue mica is 838694 BEF. This at todays exchange rate is £13003 which is £15278 including VAT.
You have to add to that:
Keyring Cars fee: £195 (The people I am using to organise the deal)
Delivery cost: £465 (delivered on a trailer to my door)
Licensing cost: £195
Alarm: £400
First service: £50
Breakdown cover: £150 (3 Years)
Bank charges: £26
So in total for a UK Spec (indentical except for alarm) with three years warranty it would cost £16759 !
I ordered mine when the exchange rate was better so my car will cost me less than £16500.

Interesting Stuff People!!!
I think when you filter all the messages and the quirls in each, we are saying that a full UK OTR with ALL the stuff is about £17k TODAY and 5-6month wait or about £18k for an ex stock.
UK gets you next to nowt off em - so there we go ther are your target prices.
This is about what I thought.
Wild claims of £15k today hits the resids !!
Seems like a lot of people are paying £18k or more.
If we really wanted to keep tabs on market forces perhaps a new forum called "Just bought and paid" would be a good idea. People can put in anyhting they have just bought and how much they paid - in particular new and old cars.
Good idea??

Ozzy I feel you are still a little sceptical......
Supersliders cost breakdown is great and is very similar to mine. Here are the differences between his purchase and mine:
Deposit on car 13368 NLG = £3903 (paid in Dec 99 I think)
remainder for car 43060-13368 NLG = £8146 (paid in May 00 - better exchange rate - about 3.65 I think
). There was a brief spell when the exchange rate went to 3.8 so someone will probably have done even better than this.
This is £12055 before vat (I have receipts
) or £14165 after vat
If you now add superslider's costs from the £17250 point (I did not have to pay for my spoiler - it was standard at the time) to my cost of £14165 but deduct the extra two years warranty (I chose not to have this) you get £14967.
This is about £15,000
Using the exact numbers from my spreadsheet which includes the cost of the £700 alarm my figure is exactly £15261. I estimated the price as £15121 a week before going to get the car but later decided to take my dad as navigator for on the way back, so there is an extra plane ticket in there from Luton to Rotterdam.
We could talk till the cows come home about whether the warranty should be included but if you are going to add that then I would say reduce the cost of the alarm (from 700 to 300). Mine is better than UK spec and has the added advantage of the crooks not knowing exactly where all the weak points are, which if you are going to nick a Scooby is probably quite handy knowledge. Also me and dad had a really nice trip out to Holland for the day, a nice drive through Dutch and Belgian countryside, some duty free, and a trip on a seacat (so you could argue that the cost of a trip out to Holland for two should be deducted also). So however you look at it the cost was about £15000.
I believe list price for a saloon was £20950 at the time, so this is a saving of about £6K not 5.
There is a chat group called importingimprezas where there are many many people who can tell you exactly the same story I have told you. Unfortunately, I am too stupid to know how to attach the link to it from here but there are others on here who are members and can.
I really enjoyed the whole experience ( with the possible exception of being passenger in a certain Dutchman's car on the way to his garage doing over 200kph through the driving rain somewhere near Rotterdam
). I could never have afforded such a great car any other way. And, at the time, this was the only way I could get the colour I wanted - sonic blue not being available in UK at that time.
For reasons previously explained, you can't get this sort of price today but the saving is still significant. For those interested, join the importingimprezas forum and get stuck into some serious chat about saving money!
