Been on track at Donno for half an hour this evening and after first five laps came in to pits and lifted bonnet to see a my turbo glowing bright red!! Also while I was driving there was a load whistling sound which seeme to be coming from the turbo.

Can anyone shed any lights on this and possibly suggest a course of action to cure it?

Should just mention that I have taken the car on track several times in the last few weeks and neither of these problems have ocurred before.

Any advice would be welcome!

my turbo glows red when its hot, can only be seen at night, the noise, are you sure itscomming from the turbo ?

it could be the first signes the blades are starting to lose the plot, take it to a specialist.

do you give it a cooling down lap or just thrash & stop ?

Maybe normal, but if it's not done it before then I guess you're EGT's are higher than normal...for whatever reason!

Hope the engine was still running while it was glowing As mentioned above, best is a cool down lap so you've got airflow under the bonnet to cool things down.

thanks for the info, i allways do a cooldown lap before coming in
and let car run for about 10 min before switcing off.
i checked the car this morning, all the hoses are on ok,
but 1 bolt on my downpipe was missing and one was lose !!!
i think the whistling might be because of this
should i be worried about the glowing turbo (hydrid VF28, MD270)

i'm taking no responsibility for that the bolt missing was like it when i fitted it, loose one on the other hand couldn't get the bolts any tighter

needs bringing in for a service

whistling sounds like the d/p connection.

turbos can glow, yes.

Older pre97 cars have a shroud/heatshield that directs air from the scoop over the turbo
