If the cat is still fitted, it probably means it is failing. That's what it is there for.
You can unplug it from the loom, but that won't make any problem with the cat go away.

its all been decatted (unless theres one in the up-pipe!). The cable to the temp. probe is damaged and has been repaired (not particularly well) although the connection seems ok.
if there are no cats left in the system is this circuit now redundant?

AFAIK the only part the sensor affects is the light in the dash, I don't think it puts a check engine code up on your model. May be wrong but my sensors been unplugged on my 95WRX for years no probs
