1st, 2nd and 3rd gear ratios are different between the Sti and UK gearboxes.

1st, 2nd and 3rd gears are lower (or shorter) ratios in the UK box.

Question

Simple question - are there any differences between the 2?
If both cars had the same power and torque would the performance be comparable?

Just realised - the P1 is revs higher doesn't it - and would therefore have 'longer legs' between changes - making it more flexible....

Maybe I should have thought about this properly before posting the question

Gear ratios are different anyway with the P1 having shorter gears throughout the range. They are the same as the 4/5 door STi.

AFAIK Gear ratios are EXACTLY the same as the UK Car and the STi Four Door - however there is a shorter final drive - although not that much shorter.

AFAIK it did not use the shorter gearbox of the Type R for some reason - I think it is because they think UK drivers are wusses and like soft suspension and long touring ratios....voila the P1

Alan,

sorry mate - but they aren't - at least for Phase II cars.

Third and fourth come as a prebuilt assembly - this is true for the UK, P1 and 4-door STi JDM models - I had to replace the third gear in my car (Sti four door) and after much research and cross-referencing parts - it is indeed the same assembly.

AFAIK the same gears are also in the Type R - just a different final drive.

And as a blind check - we actually counted the teeth and compared the new part with the old part - they were identical.

So - third can't be different...although there are different STi alternatives - these are aftermarket.

Hi david

Thanks for the info.

I've always taken the specs of the gear ratios for granted after reading up on sites similar to what Stevie put up. www.iwoc.co.uk/impspec2.html

Maybe worth a look at the earlier phase 1 stuff as a comaprison as I run an Sti Ver4 box/diff in the car now.

Cool

Thanks for the info and web address guys - if 1st & 2nd are the slightly different, and 3rd/4th are the same, it would appear there isn't much difference. 2nd would maybe be noticable, but 1st is despatched so quick I wouldn't have thought that'd really make a difference ?
