Have an ickle hole in my intercooler so I'm thinking about changing it. I presume that I'd be better off trying to get an upgraded version rather than just replacing it with another standard (MY00) version.
What are my options for upgrade? - i.e. can I fit an STI one and if so what "version" of STI am I looking for? How much are these?
Don't want to spend a fortune, hence FMIC is not an option
Cheers,
Chris

Theres been a lot of useful info posted recently regarding the technical details of various different TM/FMICs and peoples findings during testing etc
Does anyone have details of a supplier/fitter in the South who could maybe give their findings/recommendations/prices for various FMICs?
(Don't want to hijack the thread, so feel free to mail me off-line)
Thanks
Ben

I would need it it to go back on the car, when I sell it,especially if I was to go for an STI7.
would you not consider a front mount?,with you having the Link ECU it would be a far better solution than any top mount.

Is there any difference in the MY99/00 std TMIC and a StiIV or V one?
I can only see the diff in colour.......one is black and the other is silver.....plus "Tuned by Sti" tag at the top.
Anybody can comment on this?
Thanx in advance.

Thanks Jacko
Since the numbers/info could not be confirmed. Is there way or ways to test out the difference in them?
Can any expert come out with testing methods to prove this once and for all?

All you need is one of each type of intercooler, a good charge temp meter, loads of time and a good stretch of road in consistent weather conditions, oh and a Steve Lawson to change them over each time, fit each in turn and then run the car using the same boost profile with the same afr and timing ... thats the hard way, easy way is to bench test each one under the same conditions, still need all the different intercoolers though. Same flow thro' the internals, consistent input conditions (say at 60 deg C), measure input and output temps with exactly the same airflow thro' each cooler externally.

hi Chris,
I was hinting at john banks to try and get a group buy going on front mounts, with the idea of fitting one to my MY00 and then having the option to fit it to a STI7 eventually.
does anyone think this would be a possibility?

Dave Brown might have a MY99/00 standard top mount,as he has just fitted a STI to his car, might be worth a try.
edit to add:
or try Grade A Breakers (01663 744114),the speed that I got my MY99 ECU was a great service and they were very helpful.

This has been covered in depth before, but seeing as search is down...
If you are sticking with a TMIC then the 00MY you have is pretty good already. However I have been led to believe by many techies that the STi5, Sti6 or P1 TMIC looks and fits exactly the same as the 00MY. Although the Sti is Silver and the 00MY is black, the Sti one doesn't actually flow any more air, but is more efficient due to it's internals (core density?).
The Sti4 and 97MY TMIC's are not as good as the 00MY/STi5/6/P1!
Could be talking utter bo77ox, but then again I usually do!!!
Jacko.
p.s. just to add, 97MY, PCLink ECU (BRD), VF23, Sti5/6/P1 TMIC, full decat = 300BHP/290lbs/ft
Edited to add Link and correct bod spalling!
