i own a my93 wrx and have done a few mods like a monegoose exaust(de cat) from the turbo back a k&n filter and a bailey dump valve and every thing was fine untill today when i fitted a boost gauge and now as soon as i get to 4500rpm it just stops like hitting a brick wall as some people would say ,it does not matter how hard or slow you rev it or what gear youre in its like a rev limiter at 4500!!! my boost gauge is reading 0.6 bar the only other thing ive changed was to fit a delimiter(cable type),the speedo cable isnt connected at the moment would this cause the problem?,the only other thing i noticed was a whirrling noise coming from the k&n but im not sure if its just me or if it was there before,i took the boost gauge off and checked the pipes but its still the same, any help/advice would be very welcome.thanks ,darren

Sounds like overboost cut off but not at 0.6 bar. Strange one and you maybe better posting in the drivetrain section as there are quite a few experts in there.

MAF sensor needs cleaning? I may be contaminated with oil.

It has gone into 'safe mode' the ECU thinks there is a sensor fault somewhere and does not allow the boost to rise AND sets the rev limit to 4,500rpm.

Does your Check Engine Light Flash when you put it on. It will probably flash like morse code - some long and then short flashes.

This will give you the fault code...e.g. Two Long Flashes and Three Short Flashes equals 23.

Don't know what the codes are for your model year - someone will tho.

Sounds like your hitting fuel cut m8. What line did you tap off to connect the gauge, not that its got anything to do with the problem you've got.

Regards

Kev..

Daz,

you may need to connect the diagnostic plugs to read the ECU error code - if it stays on then I am sure you are in SAFE MODE and need to find out what the error is.

I saw this on my old MY94WRX when my speedo cable broke, connect your speedo cable back up and it should fix it.
