Hi, Did anyone see the news tonight about the maffia organised racket importing stolen jap imports via Dubai. Cant remember what city it was but out of all the inports stopped, half were found to be listed as stolen in japan! Anyone know how to check without incriminating yourself?

I have, for a while, been wanting to track where the blackbeast came from, as it's a jap import.

I finally spoke to the company who imported it from japan, Fine Motors in Ireland. Had a chat with one of the guys there about this grey import programme thing.

He said that its mainly exceutive and 4x4 cars, plus they will have come from Dubai (sp?) rather than direct from japan.

He said that the programme should make this clear (yeah right, like hard cash did a few months ago when it did stuff on grey imports)

So, it looks like I'm safe, and hopefully the rest of us jap import owning scooby owners maybe as well.

I await the programme with interest

Watching this on the news this morning and they said that Police have already confiscated 1,000 Stolen grey Imports.
These cars are being sold at Auction and the monies being returned to Japan. What ??? Surely these cars were insured and the payouts made etc..

Then the Plod stop you and say, sorry guvnor it's nicked and take it from you and then sell it at an auction. Your car will still be in the UK but owned by someone else and you lose out, probably to a car dealer who's gonna take advantage of these auctions.

I think it all sucks myslef, I bet Quentin Wilson jumped at the chance of doing this program as he's so against Grey Imports. He's such a smarmy dodgy w@nker himself, I'd like to import him somewhere.

I recall not so long back that the goverment were trying to crack down on the number of Grey Imports coming into th UK. Probably getting moaned at by the overpriced Uk Car Dealers.

Yes, to say the least I'm annoyed... Worried, No way not by a long shot.
I feel that this program will damage the Grey Import Owners out there. Nobody will want one and you'll lose out selling yours on if you want to.

O.M.

Now, forgive my stupidity and naivity here, but most people imported direct from Japan?

What's the Dubai connection got to do with most people on here? Nowt. So should be safe.

Although a dodgy import agent/cheap car at an unknown garage/... should probably be checked over with a fine tooth comb.

Nick.

I had customs round a few months ago as the dealer I bought mine off wasn't vat registered but because I had full receipts for my car they said I was ok and they would just take him to court!!! I had the car checked by a hpi firm when I bought it and it came with service book (correct vin number etc) manual for remote central locking that was fitted, all km records seemed to tie up and even had receipts for Jap exhaust etc. Problem is I am still paranoid now that there might be a problem as the dealer was obviously pulling a fast one over customs.

Like Rob, I would like to know if there is anyway of checking with the authorities without incriminating myself. There must be someone who can check the vin numbers with the Jap version of the dvlc, maybe a decent importer?

I'd just like to know one way or the other
