Torque wrench
Halfords do stock them, in fact they have at least 2 types, one for low torques and one for higher ones, you probably ended up talking to one of their "couple of sockets short of a full set staff" go to where the individual sockets are then look around, or ask the guy on the parts counter.
Of course you could just open the yellow pages and look for any motor factors, car parts place, etc, they all stock them.

Got mine from Halfords a couple of months ago. I think they do three versions. If you want one for doing the wheel nuts, then you'll need the bigger half inch drive version (the torque on the smaller version is below that required for Scooby wheels) - so make sure you have half inch sockets as well! (guess who didn't when he bought his
). I think it cost around £40.

The Draper ones seem OK - Practical Classics did a big torque wrench test a while back and the results were good as far as I remember. I've got a 3/8" Draper item and it seems very well made, although due to lack of equipment I've not had it actually calibrated. My other one's a Sykes-Pickavant one, 1/2" drive for bigger stuff up to 200 lb/ft and it seems fine as well. The only time I've heard of trouble occuring was when a friend bought a really cheap one - it allowed him to overtorque the bolts on his motorbike's transfer chain casing and something came off and snapped the chain, leaving him stranded miles from anywhere. best to get a good one ...
Forgot to mention - Big B&Q stores sell Draper torque wrenches, partco sell Sykes- Pickavant, Halfords should have their own ones. Charlie Brown's usually have Draper. Also Draper do mail order but I haven't got their number offhand. try searching out their website?
