I've painted my calipers black using engine laquer and they look good. They are Subaru 4pots with Subaru written down the side of them so I am planning to highlight that in white when I get some white paint. They are not on the car at the moment so no photos I'm afraid.

Halfords sell specific caliper paint, I went for engine paint as they didn't have black caliper paint at the time and I figured the engine paint should be tough enough.

Think some people have also used the smooth Hammerite paint as an alternative to caliper paint. Might be wrong though - sure someone will correct me

some one I know has used smooth hammerite as Chris suggests, still look a1 after a few k & track days.

A lot cheaper than caliper / engine paint as well

Question

Is this to prevent corrosion or just aesthetic ??

Hammerite is fine as it's heat resistant and will go hard and shiny after application, so easy to clean too.

Added bonus is it's cheaper

I used 2 coats of Hammerite smooth black on some 4 pot calipers.
After some 500 miles, the paint was baked hard and had changed to a very nice dark silver/grey colour.

I painted mine with the Halfords black caliper paint, can't remember the brand name, but German origin.

I did it mainly for aesthetics, so that the rears matched my black front Brembos, but prevention of corrosion is also useful.

But be aware, to do it properly, you're looking at about 3 or 4 hours for a pair, but in my opinion well worth the effort.

i used hammerite black smooth too with very good results. no problems after a good few thousand miles now, and stands up to wheel cleaner and pressure wash. still to pick out the 'Subaru' in white though!

Thumbs up

Cheers Fella's, very helpful lot you are as ever !
I thought £20 was a bit much for the caliper paint in Halfords, Hammerite it is then !
Thanks again,
Andyp
