STi 7 - No guts below 3.5k - The Solution
This may work for some other models as well - plus it don't cost much...
Find a nice day, some favourite B roads, and go for a blast. Remind yourself just how bl**dy quick these things are when driven a bit. I did this on the way to work this morning, with the end result that it took two hours and 1/2 tank of gas to get there. The senic route was down various roads between Harlow and Buntingford. By the time I got to Buntingford I decided that the most urgently needed upgrade is a nice little sub for the boot...
It may not feel that quick when you pull out to overtake on a motorway at 80 in 6th, but when the roads are a bit more interesting, it's a different story.

Good words.
I did not buy my STi7 to cruise the motorways. These cars are all about being pushed hard on decent A or B roads when conditions allow. The real world performance is fine and importantly so are the brakes and handling.
How many people have really lent on the fine chassis in a tight series of bends to find out how well thought out this new car really is ?

Our daily commute (well, to the train station...) is 14 miles cross country on rural unpopulated B roads, 60 limits, where no straight is longer than about 100 yards

And in the evening, get to do it all over again

Hrumph. My daily commute is 2 miles of traffic, followed by 3 miles of dual carriageway, followed by 15 miles of motorway, then 4 miles of straight A road, then a mile of traffic again. There's no justice

It helps to be a little creative with the route from time to time. My regular is A10, dull 80 mph cruise followed by A602, which can be okay but is always littered with euro trash in the morning and only has a few overtaking oportunities, which are pointless when there's heavy traffic. Harlow, Bishop Stortford, Buntingford - these are just places I like to drive past to make sure that they're still there.

Spooky. I had exactly the same thoughts last night. Came home "the long way" and for once found myself on the "right" roads with no traffic and had a fantastic 20 minute drive. Got out at home with a massive grin having realised just what a fantastic and very quick car the STi 7 is.
When just plodding around town the car can often really feel its full, heavy (ish) weight, but on the right roads in the right conditions, when you can really start to push it, it just comes alive and feels so light, "chuckable" and swift that you just have to smile.
Having driven and owned other performance cars of differing types over the years such as old style Impreza turbos, TVR, Ferrari, Evos etc, all of which are great cars, I still feel that when it all comes together at the right time there really is nothing like a turbo charged Impreza for sheer grin factor.
I am actually wondering whether I need the PPP now (although am still going to have it though, just in case!).

Being in a nice rural area and lots of nice twisties the Sti7 harder you pull around the corner the more it likes it
.
I have set the Rev beeper for 4500rpm and once you "beep beep" once dont let it go off again
Open up the windows and you'll hear the diffs working
My old MY99 was majority of the time 3rd/4th the Sti7 4th/5th
easier gear change MY99
more smile by far STi7


But when in traffic you need the Torque (not going to mention it otherwise will get all excited again)

i have my beeper set at 6500, but find that the tacho indicates about 6700 before it goes off. if i am busy trying to get back on the right side of the road or something
i have occasionally gone over 7000 - i take it that the rev limiter will kick in when necessary and that you can't actually damage anything just by leaving your foot in too long... is this correct?

I found that 6300 was the best for 1st & 2nd allowing for reaction time then 3rd & 4th say add 1/2 second and 1sec for 5th 6th is limited to 160 mph not rev limit
The beeper is invalueable during heavy involement during cornering and would advise against long periods of max Rpm

Keep feeding on and off during cornering rather than changing gear or holding at max Rpm because the waste gate will open and you'll still lose power
and mess up pants around the corner
feeding throttle will stop limiter and waste gate and still retain pull during cornering

Get your tickets from the SIDC shop before Sunday save a Fiver and get into the SIDC enclosure will save you also a visit to Dent Master
after being in the normal car parks

Alhough I an a current member(1347) when I went to Donny for there SIDC day my card wasn't current
I have spoken to Lisa and my membership is current
and Valid
but not my card
have had an Email saying so but couldn't get cheap entry to Donno(SIDC) as membership card out of date
is this so for Silverstone
