Try both, but IMHO STI 7

Do a search for threads re: the STI-7. Many of them have people chopping in MY01 PPP'd cars(which mechanically the UK300 is) for an STI 7.

Thanks Neil I like my UK300 - a lot. Nice comfy ride ( I know sounds a bit girlie). The UK300 (with PPP) has more torque that the STi7 and I think with 18inch gold Oz and rear spoiler is much more attractive than the standard STi, and does not need as much faffing with the gears. The steering is tighter on the STi.

 

Try the STI-7 I think you'll be surprised with the ride quality, handling and IMHO it's a faster car than the UK300 with PPP. Anyway, go try it and let us know.

Can't give you a serious answer to that question

 

Done already Neil, the torque is better on the UK300+PPP (pulls much better at lower revs, less bumpy ride, better exhaust noise with Prodrive back box too). Handling is better on the STi7 and brakes are sharper. (BTW STi7 I tried was without PPP).

As you've already got a UK300, would an STi7 be different enough to be worthwhile? I quite like the STi7, but I think "I've already had one Scoob, why not try something different?"

 

Carl, I really do love the UK300. I could have the STi as a company car. I dont want to use my own car for company business since I dont think the allowance would cover the running costs and depreciation (lots of miles involved).

I had thought of keeping the UK300 for fun and getting a completely different, sensible company car and tried the Williams Clio and Civic Type R (god knows when the Focus RS will be available), but most cars in a similar price bracket are disappointing in some way or other.

 

Sell the UK300 and buy an open top car(E.g Elise) then get the STI.

 

an STi7 will be more 'upgradeable' than a uk300 - but then I would say that...

I traded my UK300 with PPP for an STi7 two weeks ago and havent looked back. I also had quickshift/prodrive springs amongst other things.

As much as I liked the UK300, I cant think of much I preferred about it, possibly the lights and the 18s, but the STi lights and wheels are growing on me. Performance the STi is far better.

I agree the STi needs more low down torque (<3500rpm) but the UK300 wasnt great either. From driving both I dont think that the UK300 has more torque, even though they say it does on paper.
Ive not seen a RR result showing a basic PPP car with the 261 lbft they claim.

A few non-scooby people have said to me that the UK300 'looked faster' than the STi die to the colour, wheels, and cosmetic mods i'd done etc.

At the end of the day they are both good cars and its a nice choice to have

Must agree that the PPP sounds better than the very quiet STi, though Im sure the STi PPP will fix that when it arrives..

If the STi7 is a company car is going to be a company car, how much toying around with it would you be allowed to do?

If I had the option to own both with one being serviced and looked after by someone else then I would.

Carl, they will give the allowance instead, but taking insurance, servicing and tyres etc (high mileage expected) I doubt if it will cover it.

I had the option of a company car currently, and it only just about breaks even, the saving grace is that I own the car and will get the residual value at the end of three years.

How much ear bashing did I get from my mates and other half last night, they say Eva (that's my pet UK300) is my lucky charm, it changed my life and I cant possibly sell it!!!

I did spot a UK300 on the A120 one day last week though (does yours have a personalized plate?)

 

Carl a belated happy birthday. I think the car you saw belongs to some one called Dave he lives in Gt D (he is not on here tho), we just happened to park next to each other in Stortford one day.

 

Remember to take into consideration your tax code change though rather than just the allowance. After 10 years of company cars, and moving to a private one (just happens to be a UK300 with PPP, on car ownership scheme though) it was a pleasure to see my tax code in the black rather than the huge K code before the number. On my standard UK turbo i was being taxed at about 3k ish per year, plus the petrol card put a right dent into my take home. Think it typically works out even stevens, also taking into consideration private running costs.

imho, the STI is a far better package, I have test drove one and then got back into the 300 and it felt like there was significant differences in acceleration and handling

Listers gave me a modified UK 300 when my STi7 had it's 1000 mile service. Having owned a modded WRX for 6 months last year I had genuinely forgotten how bad the WRX is. Cant stand them, STi totally different.

Yes that was my UK300 at COS. Does the 'was' mean its no longer there?

Unfortunately I havent done any long journeys yet over about 30 miles. IMHO the ride on the STi is less harsh than my UK300 but I did have the prodrive springs on it. It is also significantly quieter at speed thanks to the lack of exhaust note, and there also seems less tyre noise.

Just a thought Dr, but how run in was the STI 7?

If you are comparing your run in car against a new or nearly new STI it's not quite a fair comparison, as your expect a looser engine to feel more torquey and less restricted.

What a choice though!

You are worried about looking to extravagent?

Just think how cool it would be to have a Cossie, UK300 and STi7 parked on the drive, your neighbours would never be the same again!

 

hmm, which would I go for? hmmm. tricky indeed.

We've got the exclusivity of the UK300 (plus I love the spoiler!) so that counts for it, as does it having PPP as well.

But then on the other hand we've got the STi, which although is not a limited edition, it does feature as the top of the range impreza, which prior to the STi is where I would have classed the UK300.

Also the STi has the front suretrac diff, which I'm told does make a lot of difference (this info from a former P1 owner who now has an STi 7).

Plus when the PPP comes along it should give the STi the performance it should have had from the beginning.

So, for me, I'd say wait for the PPP and go for STi Type UK.
