Format...take one former Lancaster bomber base, use the service road for a 2 mile drag strip (including braking distance) and the turning pad for a small sprint style circuit.

Hold the drag with 2 cars side by side, one car does the 500m and peals off the other does a 500m and a top speed run over a total of 1.2 miles (inc the 500m drag).

From memory handling circuit went something like:

Through timeing light gate, straight 200m, left - right - left chicane (150m), brake for 90 left, into fast left (150m), tightens, then slow right into slow left (100m), flat through right - left kink (150m) brake for 90 left, drift through exit gate timing light beacon

I think the whole sprint was about 800m long in all, 2nd and 3rd gear only, loads of run off, but I really struggled with 'cone blindnes' trying to work out the direction changes! Perhapsa little too short, but it was fairly safe, I can't beleive how well some of the bigger cars (Skylines, Supras and Vipers) did through it, there wasn't much room for them!

There were 3 classes:

A = Front Wheel Drive
B = Rear Wheel Drive
C = 4 Wheel Drive

There were winners for each class and on the drag each class was pitted against each other to find the overal sprint winner.

Chris (200 club) has explained this on a separate thread about the results

Morning all

First off, the weather - After initial showers, it has seemed to brighten, with even a bit of sunshine. However, still looks quite grey & cloudy

RB5 Scott & myself are the only 2 scoobs here ATM, so if any of the rest are reading - HURRY UP!!!

Typically, there are loads of Fords here

More later as the action starts!

Great day, just coming to an end

Mark (R19 KET) got running late in the day, but only managed 3 runs b4 time up. This was enough to give him 13.45/126 which was 10th in class &13th overall - well done There could,ve been even more if he'd got the fueling sorted

Plantie recorded a top speed of 163 with a 14.48/112 best.

TimW/Slooby recorded a top speed of 166.6

Back @ the handling circuit, Felstead came back determined to beat the PTMW! time, which had dropped to 34.53

There ensued a battle royale, with times being chipped away until Felstead clawed back the lead with a 34.26 against PTMW! best of 34.41 There it stayed & PTMW! was unable to do better - he tried

Felstead then came back just before the close (after swapped tyres round) & blasted his dominance with a 33.66 - respect to him

Time for the long drive home, its been a great day & it was great to have the support of all the 'netters that came to say hello - thanks

We all knew that the scoobs were likely to be outclassed by the Skylines & Cossies, but they held their own & put in a good show - next year, Mark will have it all sorted & like as not well inside the top 10

250 miles to get home

What a great day

My best times were 15.46 @ 104 for the 500m and i managed to get the handling down to 35.2 i was running out of tyres and Felstead & Puff were hogging the track lol

It was also nice to see that i could live with 400+bhp escort cosworths until 3rd gear with 7000rpm sidesteps not alot can live with a scoob upto 50mph apart from that Skyline Awesome in every way : launch, sound, those times and just the little figure of 196mph at 1.5miles

I got melted by a Granada and although i did'nt get to race against it, the Maestro turbo did something like a 13.9

Great to catch up with everyone
Scott

Just got home!

Absolutely fantastic day.

The handling circuit runs was a fantastic battle with Puff, we were trading thousanths at times!

At one stage i was faster with my wet weather run than in the dry as it let me use the front diff more. I set a 35.00 in the wet, which is nuts really. There is just so much grip when the front diff is wound up, it doesnt work in the dry though, the balance is all wrong.

I set my second fastest time going backwards through the timing beam, as i lost it through the last corner as red mist took over, I wasnt backing off! fun stuff.

My fastest was 33.67s, which i am chuffed to bits with, that was faster than the class winning Fisher Fury kit car!

Thanks for the competition puff, that wagon of yours is one sorted car, very impressed with the times you set all day! I had to work damn hard to get the fastest scoob time! Great driving!

I have a ton of pictures to upload which i will post tomorrow night, many thanks to Rich Wild for taking a lot of them for me! Cheers mate!

I'll post a novel soon Great to see everyone again and meet some of the guys i have only chatted to on here before. Thanks Mossman for putting me up the night before!

OK, bed for me. Looky what i won, thanks to RC developments for sponsoring the Subaru's!

Big *** trophy!

Cusco rear strut brace.

P.S I got my *** kicked on the drag strip there are some powerful scoobs out there now! Very impresive!

Well that was a giggle

Just woken up, I got home a bit before the others in our little convoy (Mark/Pat, Nito/Jane and Plantie/Sean/Cat) at 1 am this morning.

Would have had more sleep on Saturday/Sunday if someone hadn't broken their car resulting us setting off at 9.30pm...which after several fuel stops, a meal in TGI Friday's in Northampton(where we bumped into the PE crue having a break from some Ford thingame at Silverstone) and a very long drive (Moe and Alan were with us for the journey up) meant we arrived in the hotel at 2.30am only to be up at 7 to wash the cars intime for the rain

We got to Elvington at about 8.50, qued for half an hour and then met up with Puff, Felly and Scott. As usual the chortles began about my tool kit...and as expected it got used which had to be unloaded...John and Puff went off to play, Nito went off to fix his exhaust..again, and again, and... well you get the picture... Plantie and Scott hit the drag...Mark and Pat tinkered and fettled

Eventually I went for a couple of drag runs (only did 5 in all), first run, terrible launch, 16.01 @ 110 for the 500, toping out at 148.5
Second run got a better launch, 15.05 @ 112, never saw the top speed, but it felt good...
Third run, ish ok launch, 15.03 @ 112 166.6 terminal for 1.2 miles hello! car was still pulling as I crossed the line, red line in top was a possible target for the day then...
Fourth run, tried a brutal launch (which goes against every one of my engineering instincts) cooked the clutch (wasn't brutal enough and ended up slipping it oops) it slipped through 2nd, 3rd and into 4th...can't remember the times in detail, but it was something like 16 @ 110 and 140 terminal..
Fifth run was iladvised, the car hadn't recovered, and I got something like a 15.5 @ 110 and 150 terminal...
Time to give it a rest, I'd established a target for Plantie
Big thanks to Truda - Trout's missus - for collecting my last timing slips!

Off to the handling circuit instead then!

Thanks to David Wallis for the loan of his wheels with instructions to destroy the tyres I tried, I really tried, but couldn't better 35.6 secs rounds the handling circuit, although I was driffting it everywhere...avoided hitting the cones by weaving through them on several occaisions, and tried to go through the timing beacon sideways Harvey told me it looked good even if the times weren't great! Got a bit silly at one point, just Puff, myself and a Formula Ford (now don't tell me that was road legal!)

Having realised it was time to give the car a well earned rest I went back to camp and speant ages packing up, unpacking to fix things (Plantie's light's this time) and just chatting...

Then off for a meal with Michelle (and enterage) Felly, Harvey and our convoy (less Moe and Alan) and home....setting off at 9.30, again...

Top day out, shame about the showers some awesome cars (the grey skyline launching off into the distance had to be seen to be beleived...) new faces, old faces and some down right ugly faces

Roll on next year and a proper engine...180mph...yeah bring it on

.....on the blower to Abbey Motorsport already - £50,000 cheque in hand.....

Top day out and we even got to go and see our new house - imagine only living 5 miles from a regular track venue

Mark - really pleased to see you run - I know it has been a long time coming and you will definately get there - and get there really quickly!

Puff, I'm sure Truda would be extactic at the prospect of us lot turning up on her doorstep at 2.30am...

Then again we'd probably get there earlier and take the cars apart there and leave bits of engine in the kitchen sink
