Can be dirt in the idle sensor.
what car is it?
My heavily modified 94WRX run fine.
But when it hasn't been used for a few days it runs like crap for the first five minutes untill warm. Then it is fine. if it is used every day it is fine. I wonder whether it is the ECU finding its feet - as the engine is v cold and the petrol has been sitting in the tank etc.
Quite a few people have had this problem. But there never has been a definative answer to actually what causes it.

Idle sensor seems to reoccur though in posts

Cheers

Steve,
I too have a 94 WRX which is showing symtoms of poor running for 3 - 5 seconds after start up . I've recently fitted new blitz iridiun plugs which did improve matters for 3 , maybe 4 weeks but I'm back to poor running as if it's "chuffing" and not running cleanly for the first few seconds . I had suspected dodgy coil packs but after reading your experiences I'm now confused . Easily done though ! When you mention the idle sensor is this the idle speed control valve on the inlet manifold . If so can it be easily cleaned ?

Regards,
John

Yes thats the one.

There have been a few posts on here in the past about this prob.
Have you noticed my experience with how the car is used? (Not used for a few days the problems pops up again)

Personaly I just live with it. I recon it is one of those niggles that we will stumble across the solution for. Keep me posted if you have any news on this.

Cheers
Steve

have you got the cover removed over the filter/induction kit i did but replaced it and seems to be running a bit better (thinking that water has been settling on filter then sucked into it .
