Is it ok to leave the aircon compressor......

Is it ok to leave the aircon compressor connected without the pipes on it, i have looked at the belts on the front pulleys and i cant see how the water/oil pump (whichever it is) will turn if i remove the compressor/aircon belt???

The reason i need to remove the rest is so that i can fit my fmic easier, and before anyone starts... i know my aircon wont work without the pipes

Just dump the aircon pump. The PAS/alternator runs off a seperate belt I think on AC cars anyway. If it doesnt, just get a smaller belt, and it will then be the same as a non AC car.

there is another pulley on the aircon pump belt, it may just be a tensioner, but it may be a water/oil pump pulley...
If it is just a tensioner then i'll just remove the aircon pump, but if it is a pulley that must turn then there is no way i will get a belt that small to go from the crank to the ???pulley...
What do you reckon that other pulley is??

Oil pump is driven directly off the nose of the crankshaft, and water pump is driven off the rear of the timing belt. Both are not visible without removal of timing belt covers
All the belts you can see outside of the engine are not critical. They only drive ancilliaries, eg alternator ( obviously important ) PAS, and AC

Thanks mate, i'm gonna remove the whole lot tomorrow......
That spare pulley definately looks like just a tensioner for the aircon belt now, was just worried that i might be leaving an important pulley not turning... If i could post you a beer

I would think that letting the R122 (used to be freon but that seemed to kill the ozone layer) filling of the aircon escape into the open air is a serious offence to the environment.
I suggest you take it to a certified aircon-repair centre to let them take it out.

Most cars are filled with R-134 now, ( or wotever they call it ) which I assume is less harmful otherwise they wouldnt be usin it.
They also say that CO etc is harmful, and there is too much C02 in the atmos causing global warming, yet I have yet to see a home heating boiler with a catalytic convertor to clean up its emissions. If CO2 is so bad for global warming then why dont the kick up about the cats converting everything else into CO2 ??? The cats that are also made from poisonous materials. I am sure there are genuine enviromental issues with most things, but I suspect that a lot of the issues are actually man made by certain people to profit from the propoganda.
Do all the do-gooders at various green organizations own no cars, use no heating oil??? *****. Greenpeace even own stupid big polluting ships you alway see the hippys on TV on. Im sure when they are out hiding in the trees, or diggin holes in the ground, they use the most innefficient form of electric possible...batteries, they use gas for cooking I bet....Hypocrits

Yes all cars now run on R134a which is called a hydrotropic blend which means its made up of 3-4 differant refrigerants. It still has cfs in it which is bad for the ozone but a very small amount that is why they call it ozone frendly what they dont tell you is that it adds to the green house effect.refrigerant has no c02 in it. co2 air and water are air con killers.

oh well looks like i am going to have to pay someone to release the gas from my aircon as i am not qualified to do it

I mean look at the people who do wheel spins, all that burning rubber
Not a problem with 4 wheel drive

Well, just remember three rules;

- do it outside of the garage as the expanding gas can suffocate you as it drives away the oxygen. Remember R134 is colorless and odorless.
- don't get in the way of expanding gas as it will freeze your skin, eyes etc.
- don't let the police see you do it.

And whereever you release the gas, watch ur hands... All that stuff can freeze/burn, as I found out with NOS... Be careful, it is easy done.

Houses already generate more CO2 'pollution' than cars, so may be it's just as well the 'greens' haven't started thinking about their next dum *** plan to destroy the world.
