Had the car 3 months now and the only performance mod I have is the Magnex back box. Don't really want to wait for the PPP and anyway its a type UK import so the warranty thing is not important.
If I decat it I am aware of the problems with boost spiking at 1.7 bar.

1. If I add a boost controller will this allow me to fully decat and solve the problem? Think I would be quite happy for a while if I got 280 brake ?

2. What difference would a panel filter make?

3. For the future what replacement ECU options do I have.

Many thanks.

Hi Dave.I have a JDM one so things might be a bit different.I've got a fully decatted system including up pipe all from Scoobysport. Results are amazing, the car really flies now.You do not need a BC,just a different sized restrictor.I peak and hold 1.2bar,and no det.No ECU at present but Ecutek/Link/Gems are all working on it as we speak.

John, I recall you specifically saying that was not the thing to do to an STi version car due to the higher boost levels run and extra "risks" involved. Dawes would definately affect warranty I would have thought as it is, after all, a bleed valve with a "pop off" relief in it and is taking control of the boost away from the ecu.

Bob - I was meaning as a way of avoiding the boost spikes with the decat not to increase the boost. Certainly it is already a part of one performance offering from a UK company. Old or new STi there are not enough people that have fitted MBCs to have the confidence in fitting one that you could to a late model classic UK car hence my caution especially for those who are setting up without any way of checking safety.

With restrictors typically in 0.1mm increments it can be a bit tricky with the sizing and individual cars with different breathing seem to often need different sizes. I suppose an adjustable restrictor needle valve would keep the original functionality?

The full decat would also surely remove your warranty as well officially, especially since the talk of too low back pressure causing engine failure - not on the STi, but they seem to be tightening up. So Dave is left with warranty/no mods/wait for PPP or mod it in any way for performance and lose the warranty which he says is not important, and I also understand he is a 25 PSI superchip veteran when a hose melted on his MY00
