What are my options regarding different ECU's on a MY93 WRX? I want to be able to up the boost safely an would like to be able to play around with fuelling/ignition/boost settings to acheive this. What sort of money are we talking for something like a MOTEC etc?

Motec M 800
Gems
Apexi Power FC
Link
Autronics
Walbro TDD

are some of the options. Cost is around £1500, except for the A'PEXi (slightly less) and the link (a lot less).

Red face

Off the top of me head..
GEMS is around 1400 quid
Link is around 1600 quid
Motec is around 2300 quid
Dunno about the rest

Tony
(or you could fit an MY95/96 ecu from another wrx as long as it isnt from a wagon for much less )

pectel - about 4 k.

if you want to have a play, start simple and go for a link.

much less than £1600.

can find them second hand now for about the £400 mark.

be careful if you do want a play, you do need to know your stuff.

Nah, I'll pick it up. If I melt my pistons, it's just a good excuse to go to 2.5L

Thanks for the replies guys. Do any have an advantage over any other in terms of working with Scoobies, i.e. has anyone else already been down the development path with them?

if you can wait for the vapourware, then it will only be a few weeks. Although all the options really need some hardware to map them, air/fuel meter (preferably a wide band one), knock link, deltadash type thing (more vapourware, about 3 weeks).

But it is possible to do it right now if you have:

An eprom programmer
A shed load of empty eproms
Plenty of time
Plenty of (private) road
Big brass ones

Well, seeing as I will be testing it on my car (now there's a real show of faith!) I hope not.

While I am here, some thanks to Mark A, Bob R and Pat H. All of whom have been more than helpful with the whole ECU/Engine thing.

We cant say 'let us vapourise your engine' as plenty of people already do that to your money and your engine

Thanks for the e-mail David, I'm definately up for having the power to vapourise my own engine

Lemme see, 17psi boost, lean it out at around 6500rpm and it should be a good firework display

I am running a GEMS ECU and have been 110% impressed with the unit.

Good idle control including compensation for Air Con etc.

Dual ignition maps for example 95 ron and Optimax or a racing map for Optimax + Booster.

Anti-lag switch.

Good resolution i.e. load sites. I think there are 14?? I will have to check.

I will try and dig out more details if you are interested?? let me know..

Okay all...so far I am totally sold on a GEMS thanks to Joules.....now can anyone tell me anything accurate about The Link ECU (which I am already playing with the windows software for...and am severely tempted to invest in the hardware).

And how is your vapourware doing, Pavlo/Wallis productions?
Cos it sounds neat

I think what we are doing is a bit involved atm. The older standard ECU has to be remapped with an external Eprom, so if you know what you are doing with that sort of thing that's fine.

As with any mappable setup, means of testing fuelling and enigne knock whislt running full load are vital.

Joules,

The Gems is a very good unit, but I noticed that you don't appear to have a "Pit lane speed limiter"......:rolleys:

I must get hold of the Gems software, and see what's it's like to use.....

Mark.
