After reading all these posts that a failing MAF sensor could cause the engine to let go i am a little worried about the ITG i have just fitted.
When i did fit it i thought that the worse that could happen was the MAF sensor would pack up did'nt realise it could cost me a new engine :-(

Am i worrying unnecesarily???????

Cheers

MAF sensors fail with the oem set-up as well. Plenty of people seem to have had a standard air-filter replaced wrongly by dealers, which is probably worse than an induction kit for the MAF. An ITG will, in all probability, make no difference.
Nonetheless, it may be worth having an AFR meter of some sort for 'peace of mind', or that may also increase paranoia as well

Wink

Yeah, paranoia and Scooby tuning seem to go hand-in-hand these days Those gauge manufacturers must be rubbing their hands.

Hopefully someone will have all the tools for a nice cheap in-car ECU reader.

Not an intentional plug for Scoobysport but Pete Croney uses ITG panel filters and sells them...if he trusts them.....

My ITG filter has just landed on the doormat .. are there any hints/tips/gotchas that I should be aware when fitting this?

Thanks.
Ian.

Didn't realise it was part of the ppp interesting.

And how can you confirm it is fitted correctly???? I have only just fitted mine and i can't say it was easy. when the original was replaced the guys at the garage just lifted the cover and dropped it in. Perhaps it's just me being over cautious again.

It would be quite difficult to fit incorrectly! It only fits in one way, and if you put it in upside down, the lid wont close, I think.

I wouldn't worry about the MAF, the ITG will not cause any increased vibration whatsoever (possible cause with cones) and I don't think the micron size is too bad, although it will be bigger.

Sorry, but AFAIK, it's not part of the PPP.

Mr Banks had a PPP + ITG, but don't think it came with the pack. I also remember Puff confirming this a month or so ago when he posted pics of what is suppliued with the pack i.e. Backbox, Centre, IC piping (inc. metal 'Y' piece) and ECU.

The main thing to watch for is that it's snug in the airbox and the airbox lid is secure. What you don't want is any unfiltered air getting near the MAF or engine

You need to remove the airbox lid completed to get the best fit. This includes removing the large tubing and disconnecting the MAF wiring. Whatever you do, don't drop the airbox lid as the MAF is delicate.

I posted some instructions I while back, so I'll see if I can post a url.

ozzy: I would be keen to see those instructions!! (Installing mine later).

Did a search (fails as I can't search on ITG :-) searching for filter didn't show anything with your name on it.

Thanks.

fubar,

I responded to someone else's post back in April. There's one in Drivetrain, but that was when Neil had a strange noise after fitting his (turned out that the lid wasn't on properly).

I've tried to find the other post (in General, I think), but Search doesn't appear to be working

It defo had ITG in the heading.

There's nothing to fitting it, you just need to remove the large tubing from the airbox and lift out the lid completely (also disconnect he MAF wiring to lift it clean out).

Put the new one in with the ITG wording facing up, secure the lid back on. Make sure the bottom of the lid is secure. It doesn't just drop straight on top, you have to hook the bottom under the plastic clips. Redo the metal clips and make sure there's no movement in the lid and it's sealed all the way around.

Then just connect the hose and MAF wiring back and that's it.

Also make sure you re-connect the little tubing to the underside of the large air intake tube.

Stefan,

I have the dealer literature which came with my MY99, says ITG included in PPP?

Ram air filter was part of the pre MY99 PPP only. Maf sensor type changed on MY99/00 and Prodrive dropped the filter as part of the package.

MB,

Well that's confusing

Puff sourced the PPP back in 1999 (or maybe even 2000) and the ITG didn't come with the PPP then.

Guess it's another one of those questions with contradicting evidence.

Stefan

Here's the original post (god damn search, it's taken me ages to find the bloody thing manually aaaarrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhh)

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=87458

Pete was a little concerned that my pictures suggested you didn't need to remove the whole air box. As I explained at the time, they were to identify the bits and you should attempt to just squeeze the filter in without removing it properly.

Thumbs up

JohnSubaru,

I think SccobyDuck is referring to my comment on an ECU reader and this post http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...=109214&Page=1

Well the general opinion appears to be not to worry too much about it .

Thanks Guys
