Question

No, sadly I haven't got one, but I was thinking it might be a nice idea for the electronically competent to try & devise something?

AFAIK, there are certain conditions under which the MAF should be reading above a certain value. I think that at WOT & above some RPM or other (and above a certain speed?) the voltage should be at least 4.1V. I haven't looked into the exact conditions yet, as I thought I'd wait for my idea to be gunned down first

Surely, though, it's a simple 'if rpm>x and speed>y and MAF<4.1V then flash/beep' type thing. It would mean less trips with the laptop dangling precariously off the edge of the seat when 'just checking' . And all the data required are already wired to the ECU, it's just a case of hacking those cables up rather than placing little pods all over the place & trying to look at them while doing calculations in your head at the same time as hanging on to a raging steering wheel.

Just a thought

I suggest a MAF vs MAP meter. You could use an op amp package to buffer the appropriate signals and then scale them so that if the MAF voltage is not adequate then an alarm sounds.

Alternatively what about a lambda gauge?

Hmmm, I was thinking of something in the 'fit and forget' line of things, the idea being that if the light comes on, it's time to bring out the diagnostic stuff. It might be simply because it's a hot day, of course, but shouldn't happen very often. I'd just like to spend a little less time looking at the disco lights & more on the road occasionaly...
The MAF v MAP thingy could well work - but I don't know enough about the actual conditions/outputs that could be used to define whether the MAF sensor is OK or on its way out. That's the bit for you lot who know what you're doing to look at
