My steering wheel (standard MY00 wheel) is too slippy. I have never cleaned it with any polish or cleaner. Does anyone know of anything that will make it a bit more grippy?

Dont fancy rubbing it with sandpaper !

get racing gloves!

 

Used to wear them when rallying but a bit impractical every day.

My last pair died when I micro waved them... after using them on my pushbike they got wet so I put them in the microwave to dry (Nomex... I thought no problem...) the leather strips on the fingers and palms shrivelled up and pulled the gloves into a deformed shape!

Use Fox Pawtectors.....excellent driving gloves.

Clean it with an interior cleaner. Should take the shine off. If not, at least your hands will smell nice.

Most interior cleaners I have tried on interiors () leave a silicon slippy finish, do you know of one that doesnt ?

You could try super glue..........but then you may struggle to change gear, indicate, get out of the car etc, etc

Okay, I am off back to the hutch now

 

Also less chance of getting my car knicked if I'm superglued to the steering wheel! Maybe get me an insurance discount ?

 

Or, always drive in a straight line

 

Some cleaners(like back to black now do a matt finish.

i used to use saddle soap on my last car it takes all the shinyness off you can get it from horse riding tackle shops.

 

Best of luck, I never found anything that helped, but after a while I got use to it and it stopped being an issue.

I trust the car is still going fine?

 

Hi Robertio - I knew it was all your fault must be all that hair gel !

The car is fine, just had its 24 month service (ouch) still not got that wheel sorted !

Try a Chamois Leather,should take that smoothness away,

 

Have you tried sadddle soap? and I`m not being trying to be funny, it`s used for cleaning the sweat off saddles, bridles and cleaning leather furniture.

Soak a rag in methylated spirit and give the wheel rim a good rub,pongs a bit for a while but works a treat. It's also one of the best things for cleaning the windscreen.
