Just spotted a 310bhp STi at a local importer for £21.5k which seems like a lot of car for the money.

Obviously it has ~30bhp more than a UK/ Euro Sti, but what other differences in spec are there? Rock hard suspension, no underseal etc?

Can anyone comment further on the differences between the two?

Cheers

FJ

Question

I think there are 2 versions, a GL and something else, i dont think that the GL has the suretrac diffs? but the jap specs do seem to be cheaper than euro models in some cases

I'd also investigate the 310bhp claim, nearly every man and his dog on the board says, they don't have 310bhp as standard. If this is the case has it been modded, if so how well?

However a lot of people also say that the claimed 280bhp is a conservative figure for an agreementwith the Jap government.

TonyBurns, would you concur with this.

OK - so the power output dubious, I'll check that. Any more pointers on the spec and suspension / handling differences?

This is what I believe to be the differences (await multi edits as I remember things)

Jap spec car DOESN'T have:-
Extra Underseal
Tracker
cat 1 Alarm
New multihole injectors for better/more efficient fuelling ref american market.
Third cat in centre section.
ONLY 265bhp
Suspension set up for euro/english roads

The highest spec version has the suretrac system make sure it has that.

Rest I believe is cosmetic badging etc.
if anythings different I'll gladly be corrected.

Suggest you have a look at the SIDC faq's. You may just find that there are models there that claim both 280 and 300 hp as standard. Try to get the vin number for an accurate (as it gets!) standard.

To correct Hawkeye. The UK and JDM models both have only 2 cats. It is only the US model WRX that has 3.

KenG

Whats the box in the centre section?

Thought that was a cat or is it just a resonator

Hawkeye, There is one cat in the downpipe and one in the centre section IIRC. We have been here before and the number of cats has been confirmed.

Hope you are enjoying the new car.
