Went to my local dealer yesterday to enquire about a new sti pro drive when he rang the head office ? to his and my astonishment he was told that although production of the standard pro drive was on going what was the initial batch of 750 pro drives to the uk would in fact be the only ones supplied.
I in my old cynical way thought this was some kind of sales ploy as he had previously suggested the sale of the demonstrator car to me so i asked him to re confirm which he did and put the conversation on speaker phone and i heard the same thing as he said their would be no chance of getting one on the network i have put a deposit down intrested to know if anyone has heard about this or is it bull**** ?.

I've heard similar things, but I'm unsure as to their accuracy.

If there were only going to be 750 STI 7 Prodrive styles made then one would have thought that more would have been made of the limited edition thing(A plaque on the car for example).

Maybe it means only 750 this year, rather than 750 full stop? I was told a few months back that a 1000 STI's were coming to the UK this year, 750 Prodrives and 250 normal. Then the rumour said 750 PD's only and then that the std STI and PD were an ongoing model. Now it seems to be back to the 750 PD only rumour

Phone Subaru yourself and ask the question. I'm not doubting the dealer but at least you'll know for sure.

If it is limited to a final run of 750 then it makes it a pretty exclusive scoob.

Unless you've been living in a cave for the last year, it's always been common knowledge that there would only be 1000 Prodrive (sic) Style cars.

Hardly excusable in the dealers' case though, who should know better.

doug,

I believe that you can still get the PD Style via the Europe route though. I think Iain Litchfield can still get these (as his come from Europe) but don't call him this week as he's on holiday.

1000 were made and IM/Subaru UK bought 750 of these. That means there are 250 others knocking around (and as they're pretty much built to order, those 250 can be RHD or LHD).

Hope this helps,

Matt

Strange that Subaru have'nt made more of the limited run thing is'nt it? It's this fact that's made me doubt the facts so to speak.

Maybe, after being stung with the P1 and UK300 Subaru decided not to make a big deal about limited run cars, so that should they decide to make more PD style cars they're not hampered by what they said earlier.

I guess it's a bit like Renault and the clio williams. Orginally they said we'll only make 300, then it turned into a normal production model. Ford and the ST200 springs to mind too.

So I suspect the real truth is that there will only be 1000 PD cars, but that Subaru are keeping their options open for the future.

Another thought..

I'd better not write mine off, as where would I get a replacement from

LOL at this...

Presumably you can buy the rear wing from Prodrive/your local dealer.

Presumably you can buy the grill surround from IM/your local dealer

Presumably you can buy the front bumper unit from Prodrive/your local dealer...or is than one of those items supplied to "Prodrive Style chassis no. cars only...LOL.....

Ditto the skirts (for all the difference they make )

Hey presto...you have a "prodrive style car" for similar money...

So whats all the fuss about...

D - if you have seen the price of the parts for the spoiler, front bumper, grille, fog lamp covers and side skirts, then you'll end up with a Prodrive style car which cost about £800 - £1k more than Subaru were charging for them. You would of course have a set of standard parts as well, which you could sell to re-coup some of the extra costs.

My - pretty clear - recollection of the advance advertising material is, that it said that 750 of the 1000 imported in 2002 woulD be "Prodrives" with wording which clearly implied there'd be more "Prodrive Style" in 2003 - though not phrased in such a way as to tie it to the "bugeye" core. I therefore suspect that, whatever MY03 underpinnings look like, there'll be a Prodrive Style??

FYI.

Warrender quoted me £4100 for the Prodrive body kit + £400 to fit it!!!!!????!?!?!?!?!?

This was on their WRC320.
They also wanted £29,995 for a Jap STI 7!!!!!!

Doesn't sound right to me.

If the facelift model is due in a few months it follows that their may well be a different prodrive version for the hopefully prettier version, just a thought

Despite the fact that the price is £1500 more than the standard car, the profit margin to IM is LESS on a Prodrive version.

This is why, I suspect, the Prodrive versions were limited.

My limited understanding of import laws depends on the number of cars being imported. The brackets are 50 (the 22b delay issue), 1000 (P1 and STI7UK) or unlimited.

My dealer said the 1000 was a limit for this year due to import laws and I would have to wait till 2003 unless I took the one on the forecourt.

This may help.

And thats without them fitting the stuff!!!!!

The STI Prodrive is wicked value if you look at what you'd pay to have the standard car sorted...

It was Japan who limited the PD Style to 1000 units for export markets and was announced in a press release on the Japanese Subaru website as such. There are no specific import limits to the STiUK or PD Style as the car is fully type approved. The 22B mentioned above was brought in under SVA which was subject to limited quotas. The P1, again type approved so no quota restriction, was limited due to production run and market feasibility.

Hi Diablo,
Reading your post on the std STI looking like a P/D version by just adding parts would take you almost there but the blue clocks would be a git to get hold of, but if you were in the know so to speak and managed this, the main point if you were to resell the car would be the log book. On my Prodrive car the log book say SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI PRODRIVE TYPE UK dont know the std version but I would guess it's the same but without the Prodrive.

Arron.

I wouldnt worry to much about the log book mine said 1.8GL 4WD when it first came through.

If you buy all the extra bits surely you have your original bits to sell in the private sales section to offset some of the cost . Anybody priced up the cost of the original bits they must come to 1500-2000 at least.
