Default Air locks

Hi all
Is there a particular/secret way of getting an air lock out of the cooling system on a 2005 Impreza wrx.
Thanks in advance

Have a read of this old thread

Check out posts from @alcalzar - he has his own method for re-filling rads and is not so sure about a way of getting airlocks out

Why do you think you have an air lock?

Hi all
The reason I suspect it's an air lock is that when the temp gauge goes up you can hold the revs up or blip the throttle and it goes back down to normal and the heater gets hotter as a result of this

Mine was a dodgy radiator cap on the mishimoto radiator.
I took for an MOT and a few other bits and the garage replaced the radiator cap without telling me and it sorted the issues.
I just noticed it had a bright shiny new cap.

Has something happened to the cooling system recently that may have caused the airlock? To clear the airlock, I'd suggest starting from scratch and replacing the coolant and filling it properly. You might want to consider replacing the thermostat while your at it and inspecting the radiator. The Americans love their burping funnels but there really shouldn't be any need if filled correctly (slowly via the turbo line from the header tank).

Never in 30+ years of building Subaru engines including the Legacy Era have I had any problem filling a Subaru coolant system. Just take your time and it will be 100%
