Default My Subaru journey has come to an end, the car went to a good home.

After owning 2 Sti hatches, a modified UK Sti hatch which i sold last year and a 20th Anniversary hatch which i sold a couple of weeks ago i think that's probably the end of my Subaru journey. The 20th Anniversary edition has gone to a good home, it was bought by a member on the Type RA Forum, he was over the moon with the car and it's condition, i just wasn't using the car so their was no point in keeping it. Cars like this need to be enjoyed and driven, to keep them in good order it takes a lot of time in cleaning and even though your not using it you still have to take them for a regular drive to keep everything lubricated and moving as it should which i did, it's definitely been a journey with the 2 cars and a fast learning curve.

This is mainly a thanks to all those that gave me help and advice over the years, they know who they are, i have many of them on whatsapp and again they were the ones who pushed me towards the Type RA Forum to sell the car. It's a tough market for selling cars at the min especially sports cars, if anyone is selling their Subaru you'll to need to drop it to a price where it's very appealing, a bargain as such otherwise you'll really struggle to sell the car, i may still post occasionally, it's just i'll no longer own a Subaru.

I've still got some things here that would be for sale for a hatch that were originally intended for my modified UK Sti hatch, a full set of door cards with switches, an Sti Hatch under tray, a version 6/7 intake manifold and the red crinkly paint is superb, really bright and vibrant and ive got the TGV deletes, a Blitz strut brace in red, ive gpot a full set of expensive Defi gauges too, if any of those interest you just give us a shout.

Nothing like that, i drive artics for aa living so i'm on the road all week doing a lot of miles, come the weekend the last thing i want to do is get behind a steering wheel again. The hatch is a great car especialy the limited edition 20th Anniversary, the handling is unreal on that car, it's like driving on rails, it's just any similar car like this just wouldn't get used hence why i had to let it go in the end.

Don't be a stranger! Its great it's gone to someone on The forum. Couldn't drive anything commercial on public roads myself, I don't have the temperament!

I'll still pop in occasiobally as i still like Subaru's and seeing what others have done to their cars, it's nice seeing well sorted cars and nice examples. It's just with my job and the time it takes to keep these cars looking great it was a commitment that i just had to let go, it definitely wasn't a finincial decision as i sold it for a great price to the new owner, a real bargain, it was more that i needed to free up some time and the commitment of owning a Subaru.

My journey end is also appearing on the horizon, but not under such ideal circumstances.
Panel rust within the rear quarter has come through, costs probably too much to repair, breakers not really interested.

I'm sorry to hear that Hedge, it's not because of a lack of effort from you because i remember when you were doing a deep clean at various stages, you had the bumpers off, arch liners off and the front crash bar etc and i think you used some bilt hamber products to underseal it around that 3/4 area and the arches. It's something that was in the back of my mind too when i had my hatches that it could happen as these cars believe it or not are now around 18 years old, no matter how much we clean the outside of the car and the panels, along with the underside etc we have no idea really what is going on on the inside of the panels with corrosion. What's your next steps, are you going to get someone to look at it or do you already know its probably too big of a job ? I'm just sorry to hear you've got this issue, i hope you can find some kind of a resolution.

I'm going to get some prices, and go from there. Either mend or sell as a project. Just spent £1200 on parts too! It's the only car I want or need, but with paint alone being several grand it's probably a goner. Then I drive it, and it all seems worth it

is it coming from within or where the bumper meets the edge of the quarter panel? ive noticed mine starting to bubble slightly there on passenger side but think its from bumper rubbing against quarter panel over years rather than coming from within

you being surrounded by salty air doesnt help either

It's coming in through the roof seam and running down inside the rear quarters,
Roof seam
Roof seam split some years ago. Salty water got in.

That's a bugger! Is that failure point unique to the hatches?

I think they must all do that, same on mine. I've just been using rust converter on what i can see and hoping for the best.
It does now live inside, but that means the GR Yaris is outside which doesn't really make sense

Do you have rust on the seams under the hatch weather seal at all?

I'm also wondering if the coming summer will be the last with the car, it's hard when you've put time money and thought into it over such a long period though.
Having had the Yaris for well over a year now, it's staggeringly capable (obviously has a few tweaks on it)

I've pulled off the weather seal, and peered under the roof lining, and it's not pretty. There's a little bit down above the floor behind the bumper too. Plan was to get a Yaris, and tinker with the hatch. But I'm jumping on this good man's thread, so I'll add it all to my story, as a cautionary tale!

It seems to be quite common, both UK and JDM. Quite possibly a bit of flexing , more so with uprated anti roll bars

Not really, intercooler, oil cooler, couple of intake changes and a remap. Deliberately didn't want to mess with the chassis.
