Don't use the remote! ###/$***
Hi,
If this has been covered before point me in that direction. Since I got the car 4 and a bit years ago I have had many issues it's a 2006 Hawkeye WRX STI (type UK). Last month I took the car for an MOT and it failed. Actually it was a near side front drop link. However the last few years I've had advisories for rust. So as I had a bit of money for once I put it into my friends garage to deal with it. Now here comes the issue. Ever since I bought it I've had issues with the remote. If I use the remote the alarm will go off and the immobiliser will stop the car starting it does have the sigma factory / importer fitment. There is then a random ritual of moving the key in the ignition lock before it submits and starts. If I just manually lock the doors and use the key in the drivers lock it's absolutely fine. Now every time I have to take it into a Garage, I say "don't use the remote locking" it will set make the alarm and immobiliser misbehave. and apart from the failed MOT appointment inevitably they use the f****** remote locking, so I have to sit in the parking space twiddling with the key with random alarm blasts and..err the silence of an immobilised attempted start . Now this time the ritual has failed, normally after messing around I can then just use the key in the lock and "normal service is resumed" Every time I try to start it now it's the alarm and immobiliser. Obviously it's not great for relations with our neighbours which are not great to start off with after they decided attempt to steal some of our property but that's a different story. The second key I got with the car had been bodged to look like it was OK but when I attempted to use it I sat and watched the two halves peel apart... So Carl why didn't you get it fixed when you got it? Well it was Covid time. I did have a conversation on the internet with an alarm geezer who rapidly decided he didn't want to talk to me about fixing it. By this time I had the workaround and everything just carried on. After having to have the engine re built and general life I didn't/ don't have a lot of resource to throw at it. So currently the battery is out and on charge. I have a new fob battery to fit , aren't those single button remotes horrible? I really don't want to continue with the set up as it is. I also suspect there may be something disconnected in the driver side door lock, but taking door furniture off isn't one of my favourite hobbies. Any suggestions? Or am I going to have to bite the bullet and just get the Sigma removed and a replacement fitted?
