Hold up. 2003 should be band K regardless of CO2 output

My Golf is band K as it's 2005. So £415 even though it's 259g/km

2006 Golf, identical in every way (same CO2: 259g/k ) is band M, so £735.

I prefer to look at it like this: It's £2 a day. That is still way cheaper than a daily return train ticket in my neck of the woods.

Edit: Just noticed the bus fare cap has been raised from £2 to £3, so its now cheaper than the bus too! Well done Reeves

How does that work? Band L didn't exist in 2002.

Unless it's a import registered after 2006?

you need to read the note at the bottom

*Includes cars with a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006.

Taxation for 23/03/06 onwards cars with high CO2 has been £600+ for years, increasing 'steadily' each year.

Next Aprils increase isn't massively more than it is now ?

Slightly related

The Expensive car supplement hasn't moved since 2017 - as cars are getting dearer more are likely to reach the £40,000 level

yes tax on my06 jdm is high but its ulez complaint and my insurance is 400 quid a year.
Not bad money taking all to an account for 500bhp car
For some sti's could be 400 tax but insurance over 800, same like for jdm evo's etc
Main thing with them all in this age is reliability ,i spent 1000's to keep it running.

Could someone explain why pre 2006 cars get this benefit? Doesn't make any sense.

All my jdm's plus am Aus import ( the Aus one slightly cheaper ) are the same tax amount for 55 , 56 , 07 and 08 , the year of register is supposed to be when registered in Japan , the dvla made an error with my jdm on an 04 plate , I told them and it dropped to about half the cost , all the cars have 0 emissions shown , but imports are supposed to be taxed different to other cars , plus all mine are ulez , the tax rules are confusing for jdm's but should be a lot cheaper , from last time I taxed I think 340£ or so

because that was the rule at that point and the emissions data wasn't a regular requirement for manufacturers before this date

But all other rules seem to change, yet this unfair anomaly stays in place.

by that logic why are 40year old 'classics' Tax / MOT free ??

the later rules are based on specific emissions rules that earlier cars often don't meet, just as things have continued to change in subsequent Euro 4, 5, 5+, etc..........
what about the anomaly that allows class A car to pay £0 tax ??

All this tax increase to save the planet and reduce pollution, yet I was just in disney for 3 weeks and saw zero electric cars. It's all 5.4litre pick ups and other awesome cars.

I hate this country.

I hate this country.

I was mooching about reddit the other day on a thread where someone has been ignoring the ULEZ cameras everyday, and as a consequence got a shed load of fines through the post, unopened and ignored with more and more fines arriving each day.

Thread was filled with Americans who had absolutely no idea what low emissions zones were. Nor that it's been rolled out throughout most of Europe.

I agreee classics should not be tax free.

Class A is ostensibly to encourage low emmission vehicles. If the system is based on emmissions it should be consistently applied in that way.

I could not find anything on the DVLA site , around 345 £ but as usual all car tax is going up , no CO figure is not a problem , it's based on engine size and the year of manufacture should not be based on year of import , I asked the dvla for info of tax cost for a jdm , sent me a load of stuff that made no sense 👍

When you google the co2 of a 2003 sti it says 265 co2 witch would put it in highest in that category, but not sure if it will be different as it’s a import
