Symmetrical AWD and MOT Brake test
Can anyone please clear this up for me .
When we MOT our AWD symmetrical impreza system and they carry out the Brake efficiency test do all 4 wheels need to be rotating ??? during the test
I have had MOT stations say they can not do my test because of this issue ( all 4 wheels need to rotate and they don't have the facility ) and other say it dose not matter about rotating all wheels

Not rotating all four wheels can damage the centre diff on a AWD vehicle.
"All Wheel Drive" testers can use a Brake Test Meter on the road.

I e only had mot's done at “ normal “ test stations and nobody has ever mentioned the need for a different type of set up ?
the wheel only does a couple of rotations anyway ? It’s not like it’s driven like on a rolling road.

The test station should be able to test it…
where I work we have a 2 wheel brake roller so awd’s need a decelerometer test which is usually done about 20 mph.
my t2000 need’s this test otherwise it tries to spin all the wheels and expect a loud metallic bang to follow

If you are putting a subaru on a 2 wheel drive brake tester you will damage the centre diff.
the garage should have a tapley meter(decelerator) or find somewhere that knows what they are doing.

Every subaru & awd car in Northern Ireland is put through MOT at government run centres...every one is put on a single axle brake tester, from what I remember the rollers work independently and are motorised, so the car is never driven as such it's always in neutral when on the brake tester.
I did ask them once about it but it's going back a good few years
Now I very much doubt every mot garage across the pond will have the same setup as government centres but they do/can exist

yes correct , it’s works the same here. The car isn’t driven the rollers are. Well from the dozen or so places I’ve been are.
