Hi all,
Subaru want £800 for the front section of the exhaust for an MY05 WRX!!! Does anyone have one in good condition that they would like to sell, it's the front section with the 2nd cat.
Cheers,
Paul.
Thanks for that. I wasn't sure if the one cat would get it through the mot. My other concern is that it is completely standard and I don't want to change anything that's going to require a re-map. Is it going to throw up a whole load of errors if the 2nd cat is missing?

Don't believe the wee baby cat would require a remap. I may have a short section here if you measure from flange to flange I'll look. Also does it bolt to the main cat at a slight angle.
You could always get a health check done for fueling.

TBH I don't have any way of getting underneath it to measure the section, I'm relying on sourcing the parts and taking it to a local garage for fitting. I have found a back box and bought that, the centre section is about £200 which I don't mind paying, but the £800 is a tough one to swallow on such an old car. I was hoping someone on here may have replaced their original exhaust and still have it in the garage somewhere! :-) Obviously any part I get has to fit onto the first cat and the centre section.
Who actually gave you the quoted price and for what actual part ?
Below is the info from the Subaru Database for a genuine UK MY05 UK Impreza WRX
It has the three sections of post turbo exhaust piping which constitutes Subaru's version of centre pipe naming (as against general website/forum naming convention) highlighted.
This database version (dated Nov 2021) shows both the "downpipe" sections, that contain cats, are no longer in production and are shown in RED.
Old prices can be seen on some parts warehouse sites but most state "discontinued or "out of production" or NLA.

I replaced mine with a scorpion I think straight pipe and it looks like Don's picture in post number 6 but would need to know the length from flange to flange.
Actual 2nd hand cats seem to be rare these days due to eveyone selling them off for the scrap price.
and those that are on ebay are asking silly money.
Thanks all for the info, there's some really helpful stuff there. I got the quote from my local garage, who said that the front (2nd cat) piece was only available direct from Subaru and they wanted £800. I have the back box brand new, and hopefully the centre section (44102BB) from ebay which is 2nd hand. But I have no idea if an aftermarket replacement is compatible with the first cat and the centre sections.
So I need either a 44102BA or equivalent section, I don't care what it is, as long as it fits and as long as it doesn't require a re-map and it gets through an MOT.
Thanks for all your comments, if anyone can answer in particular whether an aftermarket section fits between first cat and centre sections, that would be great!

A second cat replacement pipe does - same as used in Prodrive's PPP package......(The Scoobyworld version has the OEM heatshield retaining bracketry)

There's two different sizes/lengths that's why I told you to measure it as I may have one here.
Would you be looking to sell it? If it's in good condition I could take a chance on it fitting, the alternative is £800. I don't see a length quoted for the Scoobyworld one, so I don't even know the dimensions of that.
Wow this is going round and round.
If your WRX is a 2.0L (MY05) with an OEM exhaust and no PPP, then the second cat pipe from Scoobyworld and many others will fit.
Flanged connection location marked in red
If your WRX is a 2.5L (MY06) with an OEM exhaust and no PPP then the second cat pipe is longer as it joins at the base of the downpipe cat and the flange is angled rather than square on.
