Yet another water spray DIY bodge idea:

How about using the manifold pressure to power the water spray? Take a feed from the i/l side to a water container (sturdy) with pipes straight to the jets.

Every time you're on boost the water bottle will pressurise and send the water to the jets. This could be refined with a Dawes type device to control when pressure is fed to the bottle and a headlight washer valve (another pressure control device)to control the spray into bursts.

This is not unlike the old wiper systems of a few years back (you youngsters wouldn't know what I'm talking about) but they worked on vacuum of course.

I don't know what scares me more, the fact that you believe this might work or the fact that John Banks might think this is a viable idea. I don't know about you but I'm already iffy with aquamist, let alone an attempt at DIY water injection.

 

Do you have an archieve of ideas #1 through 1044?

It's water spray, not injection. Even I'm not that mad, wait hold on a minute, you may be onto something (Idea #1046).

Idea #1032 was swap AE 802 with 801 or 800. This worked well and probably spawned an international business in remaps. Do a search, you saw it here first....

I'm actually working on a cheap electronic spray system that won't cost an arm and a leg. It'll monitor temp (variable set) to arm the system and be triggered by boost pressure (also user defineable). It'll just take me a while.

sorry, its been tried before, well the water injection bit anyway. Was used as an old primitive injection, into the mouth of the turbo. No real pressure, causes poor atomization, ie big drops of water, and poor cooling, also high water usage.
Very inefficient

 

It would work for water spray though Floyd

I think a £ 8.00 pump from Halfords may be simpler though ?

 

......or you could make it work like the old Beetle washer systems - they were driven off air pressure in the spare wheel!

Pump it up to 60psi and you have an instant 4 bar pump!

Well, the turbo can squeeze about 2l of air into the engine per revolution running at 1bar. Your bottle will probably be at least 10l in volume. How much air will you need to get in there to squeeze the water out when bottle is full? And when it is empty? I'm sure if you sit down for an hour or two, you'd be able to do the math...?

 

Why don't you let the dump-valve dump into the container?
This should give you a nice burst of water every now and again?
Your dumpvalve won't be doing its real work very well, though...
So you get a dual stage one, that initially dumps to the tank, and then works as usual...or something like that.
